Iranian UAVs | News and Discussions

Any sane country with these things in its hands would have done this to create a domestic jet-powered HALE UCAV for the AWACS/ELINT + Heavy Strike role. Shahed-149 has inner bays with rolling PGM carrier. Leadership is wasting this platform by not driving it further. Same story with Flying Wing Shahed-171/191.

Unfortunately if IRIAF and Industry are not willing to build a 4 gen or 4.5 gen superiority aircraft that engineer has no interest for the Government.

But returning back to UAV I agree MALE are dead when it is used in a light protected airspace (you are seeing it right now in Lebanon). So the answer would be a HALE and as much as low observable possible.

But again, the bottleneck it is the engine. More than copying the RQ170, the great leap forward would be to clone the engine. I am not sure if the engine of the RQ170 was either a Garrret TFE or a Williams FJ44. But there are many corporate aircraft around the world with them. It should be easy to study alloys and try to reverse engineer those small turbofans even if they are not exact copies. The Industry could black market probably tens of them.

But I think the main problem for Iranian UAV expanding it is the engine bottleneck.
There's no such thing as a "4 gen or 4.5 gen superiority aircraft".

The uav in the picture was made in Iran. There was a picture on twitter when he was transported by car, it was also on the old Pakistani forum.

It was covered in the picture, but its characteristic back part was visible. Maybe more were made of it. The incident was 1/2 year after the US drone was shot down.

This is not direct answer, but catch the point of main difference in Iranian and turkish drones concepts... while turkish establishment wants all-inclusive approach, with omnipotent drone that can go to finish the job on its own...like last Azeri-Armenian conflict...

For Iranians it's just one piece of the mosaic, with role that is adapted to the actual situation and conditions...

There is not right of wrong here, if we are honest... last military turkish conflict was with armenia, and various African tribes...and Bayraktar was great...until Russia came as opponent...

Iran is in conflict with major global military powers, and turkish concept would be pointless for Iran...

Just different approaches....this is my constructive opinion...

That’s not what happened at all in Azerbaijan-Armenia war, you are disregarding combined arms operations. TB2 was only one aspect of the war there too. And TB2 itself worked in tandem with Harop for example, where Harop performed SEAD role. Mig-29s also flew and provided cover for Su-25 and TB2 during strike sorties. Turkish conflict with Armenia? Lol.

Just an example, here are Azerbaijani helicopters targeting Armenian armor with 30 km missiles.

Before some mod comes lecturing about off-topic, I’m only replying to another comment as always.

And I hope it will slap some people here who often make false analyses.

Anything short of jet-powered wingmen with A2A capability will be a disappointment.

Don't be so ambitious.
They said it is cooperation with Defense Minister ( he cited explicitly IRIN?) and the obvious gap should be an embarked UAV for the new carrier drone. But again, the eternal bottleneck It is a more powerful engine to allow more MTOW and STOBAR operations. But who knows.

Might be 313 in some form.
The upcoming pahpod is a joint production of Sepah Navy and MOD Aerospace Industries. Will be seen in 'next joining ceremonies'.
