Something big is brewing up, bigger than the region itself...try linking US statements regarding Iran....shipping getting attacked in waters around Iran and its proxies, Israel already pissed off by Iran equipped or pro Iran proxies, then something happens and Iran is coaxed into reacting like it did against Iraq, against shipping etc....and then US trying to make up a case of Iran being thoroughly irresponsible....i personally think there is definitely much more than meets the eye.

and Iran's miscalculations and stupidity with Pakistan accelerated the sequence of events.

After the Pakistani response, I hope that the Iranian leadership will think more logically in the future before engaging in such audacious actions, opium use is clearly running high in Tehran. It is crucial for them to avoid repeating this mistake, as it has destabilized an already fragile region and opened another unnecessary front. Many in the neighbourhood and beyond are eager for both nations to continue shedding blood, whilst they watch afar with glee. The people of Pakistan and Iran will suffer the most as a result, with their leaders pay no heed to the misery they inflicted on their own populace. Now that a few mud houses have been destroyed and innocent lives have been lost, and it is still unclear whether any terrorists were killed on either side due to the strict media control of both despotic regimes, hopefully both will take their 'brownie' points and move on.

-Pakistan has responded, what needs to be focused right now is the fact that Pakistan just proved that a superior air force can go inside Iran, attack with impunity and return back spotless.

- If Iran decides to de-escalate, which they are seemingly doing (comments on the targets being non-Iranian civilians and such), how does Iran ensure that in the future the IAF or the USAF or the KSAF does not follow the example that PAF just set?

At best Iran used Drones to either fire projectiles or dive into the selected target.

Interesting perspective. But what was the calculus if Pakistan, i.e. a nuclear state, responded? Besides, all this really shows is that the Iranian leadership may be suicidal rather than anything else.

I have a feeling they are adopting a 'Trumpian' type doctrine...nations will then think these guys are capable of anything. Lets not mess with them.
