The wise men say, 'History never repeats itself'. The essence is that history never comes back exactly the same. However, history can be re-staged depending on place, time and context. Is that what we are going to see now? After the victory in '71, the BLF (Bangladesh Liberation Force) was formed to prevent counter-revolution in the new Bangladesh. The chaotic consequences of the formation of JSD, Chhatra League-Juba League-Awami League-Gana Bahini-Rakshi Bahini from that BLF are well known to everyone. After achieving the second independence on August 5, 2024, the National Citizens' Committee was formed on September 9 to prevent counter-revolution. Half a century ago, during the Mujib regime, the BLF of the Liberation War, which was trained in India, was accused of spying on bureaucrats in the administration; the same accusation has been made against the coordinators who led the student uprising. At that time, the BLF leaders pressured the BLF leaders to form the JBL under the umbrella of power. The leader of the organization, Sheikh Fazlul Haque Moni, said, 'We do not want the rule of law in the country, we want the rule of Bangabandhu'. Instead of the rule of law, Mujib's rule was established. The consequences of the BLF's activities are history today. Now, the interim government led by Dr. Yunus is in power. Now, the leaders of the National Citizens' Committee have been accused of influencing the administration and hiring. Even though they are not part of the government, the student leaders try to resolve the crisis wherever there is a dispute. The student leaders, who are behind the government, have again taken the initiative to form the Kings Party under the patronage of the government. Not only that, but before forming a political party, they have sought the support of the Awami League-nominated councilors at the meeting of the Bangladesh City and Municipal Councilors Association. A storm of debate is raging on social media about this. Many politicians have already accused the National Citizens Committee and potential Kings Party leaders of trying to rehabilitate the leaders and activists of the Fascist Awami League. Renowned philosopher Professor Dr. Salimullah said, 'Awami League will not be able to return to politics. Their fate will be like the Muslim League. If they can return on their own, then all our knowledge will be in vain. But if someone wants to return their politics, it is a different matter.' The question is, is there really an attempt to rehabilitate Awami League leaders and activists in a political party with a different name? Otherwise, why this trick of wasting time on the election issue in the name of reforms? Although Chief Advisor Dr. Muhammad Yunus has taken a stand in favor of holding elections with some reforms, is there an attempt to pull the vote from among the advisors?
There is an organization called Bangladesh City and Municipal Councilors Association. The people nominated by Sheikh Hasina are basically elected as councilors without voting. At a rally organized by them, National Citizens Committee convener Nasiruddin Patwari said, 'We seek your (Awami League nominated councilors) maximum cooperation in the new political party that is coming under the leadership of the anti-discrimination student movement at the initiative of the National Citizens Committee. We will evaluate your sacrifices in the new political party.' National Citizens Committee chief organizer Sarjis Alam said, 'Those who have been elected as councilors with the mandate of the people should remain as representatives of the people.' The question is, how many mayors, councils, upazila chairmen, UP chairmen have been elected by the people's vote during the 15-year rule of the Awami League? Especially, the mayors and councilors of the two city corporations of Dhaka have all been elected with votes cast on the nomination of the Awami League. Is it consistent to rehabilitate the Awami League by having councilors elected by Hasina's rigged votes join the King's Party? Expressing anger over the attempt to rehabilitate the Awami League, President of the Gana Odhikar Parishad, Nurul Haque Nur, said, "There is a domestic and foreign conspiracy to rehabilitate the Awami League. The fascism that the Awami League has established in the country in the last 15 years cannot be allowed to repeat itself. We have found a new country in the student-public movement, where some have allied themselves with fascism, and are talking about bringing them back. The Awami League turned the country into a subservient state to India by sacrificing the country's independence and sovereignty. Everyone must unite so that we can all be one on the issue of the Awami League. There will be no compromise on the issue of banning the Awami League."
A storm of controversy erupted when the leaders of the National Citizens Committee, who are exerting influence on the interim government, promised to rehabilitate Awami League councils in politics, which was shared on Facebook. Netizens are making various comments and statements about this. Most netizens are comparing the National Citizens Committee with the BLF of the Mujib regime. They say, 'The nation does not expect the rehabilitation of the Awami League from the children of the sun of August 5.' Some wrote, 'The student leaders have already become controversial. They are going to form a new Kings Party in an attempt to rehabilitate the Awami League.' Someone wrote, 'Efforts are being made to form a Kings Party inspired by the spirit of several media outlets in Delhi published from Dhaka. They are the ones who are talking about delaying the elections in the name of reforms to stop BNP under India's prescription. So that Awami League leaders can be rehabilitated under the banner of the Kings Party.' One wrote, 'Many leaders and activists of the banned Chhatra League have changed their shells like snakes and merged with the students. "If the King's Party is formed, the grassroots leaders of the Jubo League-Mahila League and Awami League will be rehabilitated." Most people on social media wrote that initiatives are underway to form the King's Party with the aim of rehabilitating the district and upazila level Awami League-Chhatra League-Jubli League leaders."
In this social media debate, BNP leader (who was a mayoral candidate for Dhaka South City) Ishraq Hossain wrote, 'Demanding the reinstatement of ward councilors who were field commanders of the murderer Hasina and directly participated in the July-August massacre is a direct betrayal of the blood of martyrs. Some of those who fought against the murderers are now demanding the rehabilitation of councilors! Before implementing this decision, I will have to make a corpse and walk over it.' Lawyer Habibur Rahman wrote on Facebook, 'Councilors are people's representatives, just like Hasina was a people's representative. In the last decade and a half, there was no such thing as elections in the country. Awami League people became councilors in city corporations and municipalities by stealing votes.' He sarcastically wrote, 'Excellent new political arrangement.' Rifat Rashid, a member of the executive committee of the Student Movement Against Discrimination, wrote, 'There was never a mandate of the people in the elections held during the Awami regime. "Therefore, there is no chance that the mandate of BNP or Jamaat councilors will be valid. Legitimizing the elections during the Awami regime will be contrary to the aspirations of the mass uprising." Another member of the executive committee, Mahin Sarkar, wrote on Facebook, "It means that the councilors will remain!... Are we pouring labor into them?"
However, to stop the storm of controversy, National Citizens Committee convener Nasiruddin Patwari said, 'We do not want the rehabilitation of anyone from the Awami League-era elections. Out of the five thousand councilors across the country, there are about a thousand who are not from the Awami League, but independent. Our appeal is to those who were directly involved in the movement on behalf of the students.' The question is, have any of the MPs, mayors, upazila chairmen, UP chairmen, and councilors who were elected without a vote during the Awami League regime supported the movement? Basically, they all took a stand against the movement and many of them, like the police, Chhatra League, and Jubilee League, opened fire on the protesters with guns.
Expressing concern over the attempts to postpone the elections on the pretext of reforms, the advance message of possible Kings Party leaders to rehabilitate the Awami League, the partisan speeches of several advisors, and the ignorant comments of one advisor, BNP acting chairman Tarique Rahman advised the party's leaders and activists to be vigilant, saying, "The conspiracy has not stopped yet, a conspiracy is going on somewhere in the country. Therefore, the people must be made aware. The people must be with them, they must be with them."

গুনীজনদের কথা ‘ইতিহাসের পুনরাবৃত্তি হয় না’। সারমর্ম হচ্ছে, ইতিহাস কখনো হুবহু একইভাবে ফিরে আসে না। তবে স্থান-কাল-পাত্র ভেদে ইতিহাসের পুনঃমঞ্চায়ন হতে পারে। এখন সেটা কী আমরা দেখতে যাচ্ছি? ’৭১ এ বিজয় অর্জনের পর নতুন বাংলাদেশে প্রতিবিপ্লব ঠেকাতে বিএলএফ (বাংলাদেশ লিবারেশন ফোর্স) গঠন করা হয়েছিল। সেই বিএলএফ থেকে জাসদ, ছাত্রলীগ-যুবলীগ-আওয়ামী লীগ-গণবাহিনী-রক্ষিবাহিনী গঠনের বিশৃংখল পরিণতি সবার জানা। ২০২৪ সালের ৫ আগষ্ট দ্বিতীয় স্বাধীনতা অর্জনের পর প্রতিবিপ্লব ঠেকাতে গত ৯ সেপ্টেম্বর বিএলএফের মতোই জাতীয় নাগরিক কমিটি গঠন করা হয়। অর্ধশত বছর আগে মুজিবীয় শাসনামলে ভারতে প্রশিক্ষণপ্রাপ্ত মুক্তিযুদ্ধের বিএলএফের বিরুদ্ধে যে প্রশাসনে আমলাদের উপর খবরদারি, নিয়োগ বাণিজ্যের অভিযোগ উঠেছিল; একই অভিযোগ উঠেছে ছাত্রজনতার অভ্যুত্থানে নেতৃত্ব দেয়া সমন্বয়কদের বিরুদ্ধে। ওই সময় বিএলএফের নেতাদের চাপে ক্ষমতার ছত্রছায়ায় য্বুলীগ গঠন করা হয়েছিল। সংগঠনটির নেতা শেখ ফজলুল হক মনি বলেছিলেন, ‘আমরা দেশে আইনের শাসন চাই না, বঙ্গবন্ধুর শাসন চাই’। আইনের শাসনের বদলে মুজিবের শাসন কায়েম বিএলএফের কর্মকাণ্ডের পরিণতি আজ ইতিহাস। এখন ড. ইউনূসের নেতৃত্বাধীন অন্তর্বর্তী সরকার ক্ষমতায়। এখনই জাতীয় নাগরিক কমিটি’ নেতাদের বিরুদ্ধে প্রশাসনে প্রভাব বিস্তার ও নিয়োগ বাণিজ্যের অভিযোগ উঠেছে। সরকারের অংশ না হয়েও যেখানে বিরোধ সেখানেই ছুড়ে যান ছাত্রনেতারা সংকটের সুরাহার চেষ্টা করেন। সরাকরের আগেপিছে লেপ্টে থাকা ছাত্রনেতারা আবার সরকারের পৃষ্ঠপোষকতায় কিংস পার্টি গঠনের উদ্যোগ নিযেছেন। শুধু তাই নয় রাজনৈতিক দল গঠনের আগেই বাংলাদেশ সিটি ও পৌর কাউন্সিলর অ্যাসোসিয়েশনের সভায় আওয়ামী লীগের মনোনীত কাউন্সিলরদের সহায়তা চেয়েছেন। এ নিয়ে সামাজিক যোগাযোগ মাধ্যমে বইছে বিতর্কের ঝড়। রাজনীতিকদের অনেকেই ইতোমধ্যেই জাতীয় নাগরিক কমিটি ও সম্ভাব্য কিংস পার্টির নেতাদের রিরুদ্ধে ফ্যাসিন্ট আওয়ামী লীগের নেতাকর্মীদের পুনর্বসানের চেস্টার অভিযোগ তুলেছেন। প্রখ্যাত দার্শনিক প্রফেসর ড. সলিমুল্লাহ বলেছেন, ‘আওয়ামী লীগ আর রাজনীতিতে ফিরে আসতে পারবে না। তাদের পরিণতি হবে মুসলিম লীগের মতো। যদি তারা নিজেরা ফিরতে পারে তাহলে আমাদের সব জ্ঞানার্জন বৃর্থা যাবে। তবে কেউ তাদের রাজনীতি ফেরাতে চাইলে অন্য কথা।’ প্রশ্ন হচ্ছে সত্যিই কী আওয়ামী লীগের নেতাকর্মীদের ভিন্ন নামের রাজনৈতিক দলে পুনর্বাসনের চেষ্টা চলছে? তা নাহলে সংস্কারের নামে নির্বাচন ইস্যুতে সময়ক্ষেপণের কেন এই কূটচাল? প্রধান উপদেষ্টা ড. মুহাম্মদ ইউনূস কিছু সংস্কার করে নির্বাচন দেয়ার পক্ষ্যে অবস্থান নিলেও উপদেষ্টাদের মধ্য থেকে ভোটের লাটাই টেনে ধরার চেষ্টা হচ্ছে?
বাংলাদেশ সিটি ও পৌর কাউন্সিলর অ্যাসোসিয়েশন নামে একটি সংগঠন রয়েছে। শেখ হাসিনা মনোনীত ব্যক্তিরা ভোট ছাড়াই মূলত এই কাউন্সিলর নির্বাচিত হন। তাদের আয়োজিত সমাবেশে জাতীয় নাগরিক কমিটির আহ্বায়ক নাসীরুদ্দীন পাটওয়ারী বলেছেন, ‘জাতীয় নাগরিক কমিটির উদ্যোগে বৈষম্যবিরোধী ছাত্র আন্দোলনের নেতৃত্বে যে নতুন রাজনৈতিক দল আসছে, সেই দলে আমরা আপনাদের (আওয়ামী লীগ মনোনীত কাউন্সিলর) সর্বোচ্চ সহযোগিতা কামনা করছি। নতুন রাজনৈতিক দলে আপনাদের এই ত্যাগ-তিতিক্ষা আমরা মূল্যায়ন করব।’ জাতীয় নাগরিক কমিটির মুখ্য সংগঠক সারজিস আলম বলেছেন, ‘জনগণের ম্যান্ডেট নিয়ে যাঁরা কাউন্সিলর নির্বাচিত হয়েছেন, তারা জনগণের প্রতিনিধি হিসেবেই থাকুক।’ প্রশ্ন হচ্ছে, আওয়ামী লীগের ১৫ বছরের শাসনামলে কতজন মেয়র, কাউন্সিল, উপজেলা চেয়ারম্যান, ইউপি চেয়ারম্যান জনগণের ভোটে নির্বাচিত হয়েছেন? বিশেষ করে ঢাকার দুই সিটি কর্পোরেশন মেয়র ও কাউন্সিলর সবাই আওয়ামী লীগের মনোনয়নে পাতানো ভোটে নির্বাচিত হয়েছেন। হাসিনার পাতানো ভোটে নির্বাচিত কাউন্সিলরদের কিংস পার্টিতে অন্তর্ভক্তির মাধ্যমে আওয়ামী লীগকে পুনর্বাসন কী যুক্তসংগত? আওয়ামী লীগকে পুনর্বাসনের চেষ্টা নিয়ে ক্ষোভ প্রকাশ করে গণ অধিকার পরিষদের সভাপতি নুরুল হক নুর বলেছেন, ‘আওয়ামী লীগকে পুনর্বাসনের জন্য দেশি-বিদেশি ষড়যন্ত্র চলছে। আওয়ামী লীগ গত ১৫ বছরে দেশে যে ফ্যাসিবাদ কায়েম করেছে তার পুনরাবৃত্তি হতে দেয়া যাবে না। ছাত্র-জনতার আন্দোলনে নতুন দেশ পেয়েছি, সেখানে কেউ কেউ ফ্যাসিবাদের সঙ্গে আঁতাত করেছে, তাদের ফিরিয়ে আনার কথা বলছে। দেশের স্বাধীনতা ও সার্বভৌমত্ব বিসর্জন দিয়ে আওয়ামী লীগ দেশকে ভারতের তাবেদার রাষ্ট্রে পরিণত করেছিল। আওয়ামী লীগের প্রশ্নে আমরা সবাই যেন এক থাকতে পারি সে লক্ষ্যে সবাইকে ঐক্যবদ্ধ হতে হবে। আওয়ামী লীগকে নিষিদ্ধের প্রশ্নে কোনো আপস চলবে না।’
অন্তর্বর্তী সরকারের উপর যারা প্রভাব বিস্তার করছেন সেই জাতীয় নাগরিক কমিটির নেতাদের আওয়ামী লীগের কাউন্সিলদের রাজনীতিতে পুনর্বাসন প্রতিশ্রুতির বক্তব্য ফেসবুকে ছড়িয়ে পড়লে বিতর্কের ঝড় উঠে। নেটিজেনরা এ নিয়ে নানান মন্তব্য-বক্তব্য দিচ্ছেন। বেশির ভাগ নেটিজেন মুজিব শাসনামলের বিএলএফের সঙ্গে জাতীয় নাগরিক কমিটির তুলনা করছেন। তারা বলছেন, ‘৫ আগষ্টের সূর্য্য সন্তানদের কাছে জাতি আওয়ামী লীগ পুনর্বাসন প্রত্যাশা করে না।’ কেউ কেউ লিখেছেন ‘ছাত্র নেতারা ইতোমধ্যেই বিতর্কিত হয়ে উঠেছেন। তারা আওয়ামী লীগ পুনর্বাসনের চেষ্টায় নতুন কিংস পার্টি গঠন করতে যাচ্ছেন।’ কেউ লিখেছেন, ‘ঢাকা থেকে প্রকাশিত দিল্লির তাবেদার একাধিক গণমাধ্যমের চেতনায় উজ্জীতি হয়ে কিংস পার্টি গঠনের চেষ্টা চলছে। এরাই ভারতের প্রেসক্রিপশনে বিএনপিকে ঠেকাতে সংস্কারের নামে নির্বাচন বিলম্বের কথা বলছেন। যাতে কিংস পার্টির ব্যানারে আওয়ামী লীগ নেতাদের পুনর্বাসন করা যায়।’ একজন লিখেছেন, ‘নিষিদ্ধ ঘোষিত ছাত্রলীগের অনেক নেতাকর্মী সাপের মতো আওয়ামী খোলস পাল্টিয়ে ছাত্রদের সঙ্গে মিশে গেছেন। কিংস পার্টি গঠিত হলে যুবলীগ-মহিলা লীগ ও আওয়ামী লীগেরা তৃর্ণমূল পর্যায়ের নেতারা পুনর্বাসিত হবে’। সোস্যাল মিডিয়ায় বেশির ভাগই লিখেছেন, জেলা উপজেলা পর্যায়ের আওয়ামী লীগ-ছাত্রলীগ-যুবলীগ নেতাদের পুনর্বাসনের লক্ষ্যে কিংস পার্টি গঠনের উদ্যোগ চলছে।’
সোস্যাল মিডিয়ার এই বিতর্কে বিএনপি নেতা (ঢাকা দক্ষিণ সিটির মেয়র প্রার্থী ছিলেন) ইশরাক হোসেন লিখেছেন, ‘খুনি হাসিনার ফিল্ড কমান্ডার ও জুলাই-আগস্টের গণহত্যায় সরাসরি অংশগ্রহণকারী ওয়ার্ড কাউন্সিলরদের পুনর্বহালের দাবি জানানো শহীদদের রক্তের সঙ্গে সরাসরি বেইমানি করা। যারা খুনিদের বিরুদ্ধে লড়াই করেছে, তাদের কেউ কেউ এখন কাউন্সিলর পুনর্বাসন চাচ্ছে! এই সিদ্ধান্ত বাস্তবায়ন করার আগে আমাকে লাশ বানিয়ে তার ওপর দিয়ে যেতে হবে।’ হাবিবুর রহমান আইনজীবী ফেসবুকে লিখেছেন, ‘কাউন্সিলররা জনপ্রতিনিধি, যেমন জনপ্রতিনিধি ছিল হাসিনা। গত দেড় দশকে দেশে নির্বাচন বলে কিছু ছিল না। আওয়ামী লীগের লোকজন ভোট ডাকাতি করে সিটি করপোরেশন, পৌরসভায় কাউন্সিলর হয়েছে।’ তিনি ব্যঙ্গ করে লেখেন, ‘চমৎকার নতুন রাজনৈতিক বন্দোবস্ত।’ বৈষম্যবিরোধী ছাত্র আন্দোলনের নির্বাহী কমিটির সদস্য রিফাত রশীদ লেখেন, ‘আওয়ামী আমলে অনুষ্ঠিত নির্বাচনে কোনোকালেই জনগণের ম্যান্ডেট ছিল না। তাই বিএনপি বা জামায়াতের কাউন্সিলরদের ম্যান্ডেটও বৈধ হওয়ার বিন্দুমাত্র সুযোগ নেই। আওয়ামী আমলের নির্বাচনের বৈধতাদান হবে গণ–অভ্যুত্থানের আকাঙ্খার বিপরীত।’ নির্বাহী কমিটির আরেক সদস্য মাহিন সরকার ফেসবুকে লিখেছেন, ‘মানেটা হলো কাউন্সিলর বহাল থাকবে!...কিতার মধ্যে শ্রম ঢালতেছি।’
অবশ্য বিতর্কের ঝড় থামাতে জাতীয় নাগরিক কমিটির আহ্বায়ক নাসীরুদ্দীন পাটওয়ারী বলেন, ‘আমরা আওয়ামী আমলের নির্বাচনের কারও পুনর্বাসন চাই না। সারা দেশে পাঁচ হাজার কাউন্সিলরের মধ্যে এমন হাজারখানেক আছেন, যাঁরা আওয়ামী লীগের নন, স্বতন্ত্র। আমাদের আহ্বানটা তাঁদের প্রতি, যাঁরা সরাসরি শিক্ষার্থীদের পক্ষে আন্দোলনে ছিলেন।’ প্রশ্ন হচ্ছে আওয়ামী লীগ রেজিমে বিনা ভোটে নির্বাচিত হওয়া এমপি, মেয়র, উপজেলা চেয়ারম্যান, ইউপি চেয়ারম্যান, কাউন্সিলরদের মধ্যে কেউ কি আন্দোলনকে সমর্থন জানিয়েছে? মূলত ওরা সকলেনই আন্দোলনের বিরুদ্ধে অবস্থান নেন এবং অনেকেই পুলিশ-ছাত্রলীগ-যুবলীগের মতোই গুন্ডাপান্ডা নিযে অস্ত্র হতে আন্দোলনকারীদের ওপর গুলি ছুঁড়েছেন।
সংস্কারের অজুহাতে নির্বাচন পেছানোর চেস্টা, সম্ভাব্য কিংস পার্টির নেতাদের আওয়ামী লীগকে পুনর্বাসনের আগাম বার্তা, একাধিক উপদেস্টার মতলবী কথাবার্তা, এজন উপদেষ্টার কান্ডজ্ঞানহীন মন্তব্যে উদ্বেগ প্রকাশ করে বিএনপির ভারপ্রাপ্ত চেয়ারম্যান তারেক রহমান দলের নেতাকর্মীদের সতর্ক থাকার পরামর্শ দিয়ে বলেছেন, ‘ষড়যন্ত্র এখনো থেমে যায়নি, দেশের কোথাও একটা ষড়যন্ত্র চলছে। তাই জনগণকে সচেতন করতে হবে। জনগণকে সঙ্গে রাখতে হবে, থাকতে হবে।’
