SAC is as a purely fighter plane whereas the CAC is more of a fighter-bomber type.

This does not look like a competition where the two bureas will be aiming to be the sole winner of the contract for whatever criteria was set for a single aircraft.

I don't think that's a fighter in the conventional sense given its size, the wing configuration, the twin seats, and the large hefty undercarriage. Seems like a fighter bomber, or possible EW platform. The other option is given the 3 engines, a high altitude high speed strike aircraft designed to launch hypersonic stand off weapons. I suspect this will have a large weapons bay.

Yes, a bomber that is faster than a fighter, a bomber equipped with dual thrust vectoring nozzles, a bomber that can dogfight with fighters.

Well, the distinction between strike and air-superiority is getting less and less important nowadays. As it has good VLO, range, payload and supercruise it will perform strike and air-superiority mission equally well.

In fact I'd say China needs medium long range VLO strike platform more than another air-superiority platform.

The weapons bay is said to be about 6 meters long. Long enough for the PL-17.

He's not a Russian puppet, he's generally pro-Ukrainian and while he's been wrong plenty of times, he's also very knowledgeable.

I dont pay attention to his verses series, but his analysis of military assets of various nations (including this 6th gen) tends to be very accurate.

Xian is working on the H20, it is unlikely for a company without the pass experience of designing a fighter to suddenly come up with a sixth gen program.

Possible side by side cockpit it's very likely a strike aircraft with BVR air to air capability which is good since you get away from a one role type of aircraft like J-20 and J-35.

However this is a just a demonstrator and a prototype is likely years away.

There’s really nothing novel about this design and the fact it needs 3 engines indicates major turbine issues. High maintenance, high costs, reduced payload etc
