Türkiye, Pakistan deepen defense ties with KAAN jet export, joint helicopter project

Why didn't we decide to participate initially? I am just trying to understand how we can miss such an opportunity when it is up for grabs?
Same i don't know what paf was doing we could have funded the program too. and then turks would have agreed on assembly line too in PAC.

This is tremendous for Pakistan as well as for whole islamic world, KAAN has potential to become for islamic world what was f-16 in last two decades of 20 century for western hemisphere, force multiplier and backbone of war supremacy.

Because our leadership lacked a real understanding of how industrialization worked. They didn't think Turkiye could do it, though all the signs were there (and documented on Quwa.org since Turkiye started the program).

Pakistan does not have the industrial base to even manufacture the airframe for KAAN.

It can manage the JF-17 as that is a much lower level of tech as it is mostly metal alloys, whereas KAAN uses carbon fibre composites.

I don't think a production line is really realistic and at the most assembly from kit-form would be possible.

I doubt Pakistan will be interested in any Turkish aerial assets since there is always the risk of being rejected due to pressure from DC. Wasn’t that the whole point of going after J-10C instead of more F-16s?

DC can't pressure anything as the plane is completely Turkish. Also just why will DC pressure, they have no reason to.
The J-10 diversifies the inventory.

Looking at the Be-hal of the HAL run by the super cunning Bharatis, one can appreciate the accomplishment of the TAI better. Good to learn that the PAC would be siphoning off some of these capabilities....

The Turkish engineers have take manufacturing to the art level by imparting as much "imagination" as possible. The pinnacle of manufacturing lies in functionality, repeatability, reliability, quality etc. honed by the painstaking process control to be in the continuously improvement mode and mood. HAL is the prime example for not being able to slay the "Devils lying in details", which will continuously haunt with the Murphy's Laws. It has failed to deliver even the initial order of 40 a/cs in 4 decades....

The powerplant is American. Didn’t DC disallow Turkey from selling its attack helicopters to Pakistan for this reason?

the level of impeccable manufacturing, meticulous quality control by thorough testing, and overall tne dedication of the workforce can beat its peers. The Pak side has made the right choice....

Totally agree!

What the Kaan programme gives Pakistan is a level of progress in military industrialisation that is not possible with China right now. It is not just the technology, it is also the processes, procedures that Pakistan can lean from turkey which help make the industrial design of home grown projects better. Just look at the quality workmanship and industrial design of Turkish products, they are excellent.

Being able to design a product is something is important, but, as we are seeing with India, you have to know how to manufacture these designs at an industrial scale and turkey can help with that.

Pakistan will opt for the Turkish powerplant.

Powerplant is still F-110 from General Electric.

They're saying the PAF will wait for the Turkish engine. Besides the KAAN is still under development, it's not a near-term factor for Turkiye (hence the Typhoon and F-16 Block-70 purchases), much less so for PAF.

what about PFX?

I'm not confident in PFX amounting to new-build aircraft, especially if the idea is to lessen reliance on China. Even if PAC can buy the whole design, it seems there are some Chinese controls on the production equipment necessary for manufacturing AVIC's share of the fighter.

Currently, I think PFX is more about upgrading the PAF's JF-17s with Pakistani-designed subsystems and weapons.

IMO, if the PAF is genuinely serious about developing a new lightweight 4.5-generation fighter separately from China, then talk to Turkiye about turning their Hürjet into a larger and longer-ranged fighter.

I think Turkiye may have an incentive for doing so as it seems the Turkish Navy will use the Hürjet from their future aircraft carrier. I'm skeptical the Turkish Navy will use the Hürjet as it is now; a dedicated fighter variant with some design changes could be real, and that's the project the PAF needs to get in on.

context- America didn’t allow Turkey an export license to sell T-129 ATAK to Pakistan to replace the ageing AH-1F Cobras.

I’m just saying I don’t think Pakistan will make the same mistake again when it makes more sense to go for J-35, which will give PAF the independence that KAAN may not. Even the Turkish engine under development for KAAN is a joint venture between TUSAS and Rolls Royce.

Turkey will develop a new engine for Kaan and won't be able to sell it to Pakistan!!!! 🤣

The only reason we're developing a new engine is to sell Kaan to countries like Pakistan. Moreover, Rolls-Royce has no involvement in the engine. The intellectual property rights of the new engine will be 100% owned by Turkey.
