Makes sense though! It's a win/win. As for the USAF, the PAF is only "quasi-ally" at the threshold of the CA. Couple it with the continuation of the well-established "strategic knob" as the PAF is getting overwhelmingly Chinese. As for the PAF, it's the opportunity cost......

I feel sorry for the IAF. They have made a bed in the sea; what's there to fear at few dew drops?

Wishful thinking but always hope for the best for our country.

If true big news, but not the game changer it would have been 4-5 years ago. The main benefit of this would be enabling PAF to remain NATO/US compatible for joint exercises/operations and to some extent maintain a dependency on the US.

Realistically what airframes can we give the V upgrade to? Only the 18 C/Ds right?

I don't think PAF would realistically bother with upgrading just 18 airframes. Unless we are getting new F-16s along with them maybe it is possible. Unless they're also willing to give us those AH-1Z vipers too along with em plus removing the embargo on T129s too lol

They can all be upgraded, we can get 12-14000 hours out of an f-16 airframe. Crazy good value

Yeah, thats is what I thought, going through the V upgrade and a new weapons package for just 18 planes hardly seems worth it unless we order say another 36 brand new Vs as well. Which is possible but right now PAF is involved in J-10C, J-35 and possibly even KAAN, unsure if there is an appetite for a plane with US strings that barely matches the Rafale

Same thoughts here. With so many acquisitions on the horizon plus the proposed PFX program is there really an appetite for this? I can see it being a stop gap solution for say until Kaan reaches maturity

there will always be an appetite so long as the falcons are in service and have life left. The upgrade would cost around 20-25m per airframe of the A/B's, but lets assume theyre at 8000 hours, with a SLEP (2.5m usd), they will reach 12,000h and lockheed is looking to extend that even further.

Good value

With the Eco system & investments done as sunk cost in place - seems a logical step if true.
With the restrictions of End User agreement etc - The Achilles heel could be supply of latest A2A Missiles ?
