With strong capabilities for comprehensive combat operations and diverse military missions, the warship will play a vital role in enhancing the overall combat effectiveness of naval task forces.

China is only building 2 of 054B now, they are not ready to mass produce 054B in numbers, maybe the frigate is still in the testing stage.

054B is huge. It's like a destroyer sized ship.

At 5,000 tons, it's bigger than most destroyers of earlier decades.
Still called a Frigate because tonnage is too low to being a Destroyer
Semantics. It can be called a destroyer.
Whatever you called it doesn't matter but what PLAN called it that's matter and PLAN called it Frigate so it is Frigate not a Destroyer

Personally, I refer to it as a destroyer.

France new FDI destroyers are 4500T. Type 54B frigates can be classified as a destroyer, the Type 52 destroyers are 4800T and Type 54B is 6000T or 5500T from other sources. China calls it a frigate due to building some very powerful destroyers with large Tonnage. Pakistan and other nations can buy this and use it as a destroyer.

I think what's he's trying to ask is whether it actually falls within the destroyer category or the frigate category? I would like to know the same.

Does it do the things that are expected from a destroyer or a frigate?

According to PLAN its a frigate, so its a frigate

China refers to 055 as destroyer. The US refers to 055 as cruiser. Classification is not that strict. I refer to 054B as destroyer.
