Syrian Civil War and The future of Syria after liberation

I think we have heard that line before and if he is a man of true character he doesn’t put himself on the ballot
He has suspended a 10 million bounty on his head. He is constantly in the crosshair of Predator. Must listen to those who brought him into power.

you need to stop your propaganda. Soon all ISIS atrocities pictures will be linked to some random Shia group.

Just b/c you don't like it, doesn't make it propaganda or untrue. Assad's Shabiha and some of these militias and Wagner did horrific things on a massive scale. Just take a look at Sednaya.

A photo published on several Arab sites showing ISIS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi and US Senator John McCain in a meeting has surprised the entire public.

According to the media, the photo is of a meeting taken in 2013 during the fierce fighting that was taking place on the Turkey-Syria border, Albeu Portal reports.

The photo seems to confirm the claims of Snowden, who declared that ISIS leader Al-Baghdadi is a Mossad spy.

I have no love loss that bashars gone but to say legitimate is kind of pushing it he had a chance to make a peaceful transition over 10 years ago he could have ended his family’s rule with dignity and show the world that he was a man of peace but he stayed on killed many many people than the jranans and Russians came in to save his butt. Not knocking on Iran or even Russia because after they came in they sidelined bashars military and they basically put bashars military on a leash. Now we have some guy who has pledged allegiance to al qaeda at one time to isis at one time and now he’s become the new president for life because of anyone here thinks he’s stepping aside that’s a joke he has plans and I think whatever they may be of peaceful with children putting flowers in rifles are going to be sadly mistaken.
You're not wrong in your observation... no one wants to voluntarily relinquish power. More so when they're a minority and manipulating a majority population... to manufacture a niche... a perch.
People's rights are served when their rightful stakeholders are empowered. Humans are naturally tribal... they look after themselves, their kin and finally their own tribe... the Western model is only skewed because of its history. A highly tiered society, built around trades and guilds serving appointed lords and feudals. So their idea is naturally to form kinship in their rung of social order and seek concessions. It is why, even kinship parts and forms bonds in their newfound economic circles and skin color remains a factor even if tied with blood.

Back to the point, the stakeholders, representing their own will and can form a substitute for representation through proxy. A more true union, where no one has to talk from the sides of their mouths to seem like they care ... pretend compassion for someone else's child etc.

For now though, the guy with gun will choose winners and losers, unless he's fair or nature takes its course.

new York times was just one source but other than HTS saying they have backing to lead a transition government no group has come forward openly let’s hope for the best but I doubt the Kurds or sdf are going to fall in line at this time

Syria’s de facto leader Ahmed al-Sharaa was declared president for a transitional phase on Wednesday, tightening his hold on power less than two months after he led a campaign that toppled Bashar al-Assad.

Sharaa was also empowered to form a temporary legislative council for a transitional period and the Syrian constitution was suspended, according to an announcement made by the military command which led the offensive against Assad.

The decisions emerged from a meeting of military commanders who took part in the assault, a campaign spearheaded by Sharaa’s Islamist Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) group — a former al Qaeda affiliate.

Addressing the conference, Sharaa said the first priority in Syria was to fill a vacuum in government “in a legitimate and legal way”.

He also said civil peace must be preserved through transitional justice and preventing displays of revenge, that state institutions — foremost among them military and security forces — be rebuilt, and that economic infrastructure be developed.

Sharaa has pledged to embark on a political transition including a national conference, an inclusive government, and eventual elections, which he has said could take up to four years to hold.

Wednesday’s announcement did not say when the new legislative body might be picked, or provide any new details for a timeline for the transition.

Fawaz Gerges, Professor of International Relations at the London School of Economics, said the declaration had “formalised his status as the strongman ruler”. “My take is that HTS and Sharaa intend to consolidate single-party Islamist rule.”

HTS emerged from the Nusra Front, Al-Qaeda’s affiliate in the Syrian civil war, until it cut ties in 2016.

Qatar welcomes steps

The declaration announced that “Sharaa has assumed the presidency of the country in the transitional phase” and would “carry out the duties of the presidency of the Syrian Arab Republic, and represent it in international forums”.

The new legislative council would carry out its tasks until a new constitution is adopted. The parliament elected under Assad last year was formally dissolved.

The declaration also reiterated previous steps dissolving Assad’s Baath Party and his state security apparatus, and said that rebel groups which fought him during 13 years of war were to be dissolved and merged into the state.

The announcements came at a meeting declared “The Conference for Announcing the Victory of the Syrian Revolution”.

It was attended by ministers from the interim government appointed by HTS in December, and was not publicly announced ahead of time.

Qatar, which backs the new administration, issued a statement after the declaration welcoming “moves to restructure the Syrian state and boost consensus and unity among all its parties”.

Al-Golani: The man who led overthrow of Syria’s President Assad

AS THE commander of Al Qaeda’s franchise in the Syrian civil war, Abu Mohammed al-Golani was a shadowy figure who kept out of the public eye, even when his group became the most powerful faction fighting President Bashar al-Assad.

Today, he is the most recognisable of Syria’s triumphant insurgents, having gradually stepped into the limelight since severing ties to Al Qaeda in 2016, rebranding his group and emerging as the de facto ruler of rebel-held northwestern Syria.

The transformation has been showcased since rebels led by Golani’s Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), formerly known as the Nusra Front, swept through the nation and declared they had ousted Assad on Sunday after seizing the capital.

Golani has featured prominently in the takeover, sending messages aimed at reassuring Syrian minorities who have long feared the rebels.

Despite spending five years in US custody for fighting alongside Al Qaeda in Iraq, the radical Islamist leader of HTS eventually found himself on the ‘right side’ of Washington’s military alliance

“The future is ours,” he said in a statement read on Syria’s state TV, urging his fighters not to harm those who drop arms. When the rebels entered Aleppo, pre-war Syria’s largest city, at the start of their sweep to Damascus, a video showed Golani in military fatigues issuing orders by phone, reminding fighters to protect the people and forbidding them from entering homes.

He visited Aleppo’s citadel accompanied by a fighter waving a Syrian revolution flag: once shunned by Nusra as a symbol of apostasy but recently embraced by Golani in a nod to Syria’s more mainstream opposition.
