Turkish Foreign Policy and Regional Geopolitics

@hyperman

Must read! Dendias just articulated an ultimatum in Washington during his speech at a forum organised by a Greek lobby organization.

His request from the Americans: Choose between Türkiye and Greece!

He basically said the United States can't have both of us as allies.

Use Google translate, it's worth it.

I saw the speech, its some pretty funny stuff. He goes to the US and complains about Turkey not signing UNCLOS and agreeing to its rules. Idk if he realizes that the US itself rejects UNCLOS and has disputes with Canada over it. lol

Brother, use Greek sources to refute the content of that Tweet. You are allowed to do so.
It's the dancing-around attitude that pisses me off,not the argument. This guy has a tendecy to mock and irritate with sarcastic posts and "rub it on your face" comments.

I mean, look. I criticized my government numerous times here,I talk about my country's problems, but it's obvious that hyperman does not appreciate it that and won't let his ego down for just one minute. And I'm annoyed by the fact that a guy who's hiding behind two American flags, gets all upset and asks why does Greece care about this and why does Greece meddle there and how come Greece talks about that....as if we're in Scandinavia and not in the same region with Turkey,Egypt,Libya,Cyprus and the Levant. Anlamiyorum

People still can't tell if Dendias actually believes all that stuff or he's just playing in order to get higher in the party hierarchy. But he's definetely one of the worst MoD we've ever had.

I wrote a comment that said "Greek Media is saying Macron told Mitsotakis blocking the sale was impractical" the comment made no mention of you, nor was it a reply to you, but you decided to take this as a personal affront and even used improper language calling me an Idiot. Calm down.

I think he wants to be Prime Minister or something. lol

I hear more from him in the news, launchign attacks on Turkey, more than even Mitsotakis or the actual Greek Foreign Minister.

You know what you're doing, the constant "lol" and flamebait comment style

Foinikas you can't go around tone policing other people's comments when the comment itself makes no mention of you or has anything to do with you. I wrote a post about a news story that came out about Macron and his conversation with Mitsotakis. Stay Calm, not everything is about you.

What do people in Greece generally think of him? Is he popular among the average Greek citizen? I understand that individuals like us often have a more informed view on politics due to our awareness of global and regional issues, but that may not be the case for most people.

Interesting question.

Well there's two categories: The common people and the people who are into defence and military stuff. The common people usually don't know much about defence stuff. They might think he's a great Minister of Defence or politician in general. Or they may just simply not like him.

The people who are into defence stuff and geopolitics, they just consider him a buffoon. At the very least a sneaky politician. Usually the comments on Greek defence websites are filled with negative remarks about him and his pompous long speeches and the ability to talk a lot without actually saying something.

For example he said:

"We are marching towards the most powerful Armed Forces our motherland has ever had in its centuries-long history".

Now,take a moment to think how ridiculous that quote sounds. Not just because of the current affairs, but think that a country like Greece with more than 5,000 years of history...Classical Greece,Hellenistic period,Byzantine Empire,Balkan Wars and 1940 and this guy comes and says "We'll have the strongest Armed Forces in our history" and things like "we'll have some of the most powerful frigates in the world" or "we're building a navy that will be good for the Eastern Mediterranean and maybe even more than that!"

He has a reputation for being extremely reluctant to order anything, despite talking big about purchases. On one hand he keeps mentioning how we will buy this and that,on the other hand,he complains that we have no money.

He was considered a relatively good Foreign Minister, but now those who read about defence matters and geopolitics, know he is a very bad MoD. At least incompetent.
The rumor was that Mitsotakis replaced the previous MoD with Dendias, because supposedly Dendias had high ambitions for the party hierarchy. That's what they say on greek sites.

Generally,New Democracy has lost a big part of its voters with controversial decisions, policies and plainly infuriating a lot of people with scandals.

I believe so as well, he yaps more than his Prime Minister and Foreign Minister combined.

lmao, i just read the full article, this dude is worse than I thought.

He is pulling out all the tropes, randomly talking about Women's Rights, and then talking about how Turkey is Muslim unlike Greece.

This dude... he is using ever orientalist trope in book and straight up bigotry to try to get Western Support against Turkey. I wonder if he tell the same story when he tries to build "Greece Egypt ties" or the recent "Greece Saudi" Ties. 😂

They feed one type of messaging when they court one country against Turkey and another type of messaging when they court another. lol

edit:

lol, there is more, he is promising for Greece to be The Transatlantic element inside the Orthodox World to lead the Orthodox Christian World against Russia and replace it, in exchange for Patronage from the West via support. :sneaky:
