Iran to unveil supersonic cruise missile with 2,000 km range: Tangsiri

The commander of the Islamic Revolution Guard Corps (IRGC) Navy said the Islamic Republic will soon unveil a locally developed supersonic cruise missile with a range of 2,000 kilometers, further boosting the country's advanced military capabilities in naval defense.

The new projectile, which is expected to be unveiled in the next Persian calendar year that begins on March 20, would significantly enhance Iran's deterrence capabilities, Rear Admiral Alireza Tangsiri said on Sunday, detailing the latest advances in the country's naval power.

“We now have missiles that can be launched from deep inside Iranian territory, eliminating the need for launches from the coast,” the commander said, speaking on a special television program titled “Fajr (Dawn) of Hope; Powerful Iran,” aired on the eve of the 46th anniversary of the historic victory of the 1979 Islamic Revolution.

“Thanks to these advances, we can strike targets in the Arabian Sea directly from the northern part of the Persian Gulf.”

He confirmed that the IRGC had successfully launched a cruise missile from the southern part of Iran’s western Tabas region, saying that the projectile accurately struck a target 650 kilometers away in the waters of the Arabian Sea, south of the country.

Strengthening coastal and naval defense

Highlighting Iran’s strategic military preparedness, Tangsiri revealed that the entire 2,200 kilometers of the country’s southern coastline has been fortified through collaboration between the IRGC, the army’s naval forces, and the Basij (volunteer forces) maritime division.

He also affirmed that many military assets have been strategically moved to high-altitude areas in coastal areas, making them impenetrable to the enemy’s bunker-busting bombs.

“In the southern regions, we have exploited the natural mountainous terrain to protect critical military infrastructure, ensuring that no missile or bomb can inflict damage on our assets,” he said.

IRGC Expands Naval Presence

The commander also highlighted Iran’s growing naval reach, saying that the IRGC’s Shahid Mahdavi naval vessel – capable of carrying helicopters and missile launchers – was currently deployed to Indonesia alongside an Iranian military fleet for joint military exercises.

Previously, the ship undertook a remarkable 39-day mission, sailing to waters near northern Australia and within 500 nautical miles of Diego Garcia, a key US military base in the Indian Ocean, he noted.

On Thursday, Iranian Armed Forces Chief of Staff Maj. Gen. Mohammad Baqeri reaffirmed the country’s commitment to maintaining a strong and strategic presence in international waters, stressing that Iran’s naval forces play a crucial role in regional security and in confronting foreign threats.

Iran’s First Drone-Carrying Naval Ship

Tangsiri also discussed another significant achievement of Iran’s military-industrial complex, namely the development of the Islamic Republic’s first drone-carrying naval ship.

He revealed that the IRGC Navy has repurposed aging commercial ships, transforming them into state-of-the-art drone carriers, a practice that was once only employed by a few countries, including the United States and Britain.

“The first American aircraft carrier was originally a converted merchant ship. The British did the same with captured German ships, and recently the Netherlands handed over a commercial ship to the United Kingdom to be converted into a warship. Iran has followed a similar approach, successfully developing its first drone carrier,” he explained.

Iran Uses Aircraft Anti-Skid Device Technology

According to the commander, the IRGC has also mastered the technology of aircraft arresting devices, which can slow down an aircraft, reduce its torque converter or the distance it could travel on the ground during routine or emergency landings.

He said this capability was previously exclusive to the United States, adding that its exploitation by the Islamic Republic once again demonstrates the country's self-sufficiency in high-tech military innovation.

"All new Iranian missiles are equipped with artificial intelligence"

Tangsiri stressed that all of Iran's latest missiles are piloted by AI (artificial intelligence) and equipped with precision strike capabilities, underscoring the nation's commitment to self-reliance in defense technologies

This is a great development for Iran.

This missile will destroy advanced enemy ships.

They named smaller catamaran- Abu Mahdi and larger catamaran- Soleimani.

And now they named smaller anti-ship cruise missile-Abu Mahdi and one can wonder what is the bigger Soleimani missile is- possibly an Anti-ship ballistic missile with 1500km range

Iranian Moskit? Would be about time.
some say it's based on Kh-31 not Moskit (he says the graphic is Moskit but the missile we saw was not the same as the graphic/Moskit)

Well, the KH-31 was derived from the Sunburn in fact it was designed by the same office. Anyway being a very low quality picture, for me seems a evolution of the Sunburn. There is closer resemblace to YJ12.

i saw some iranian outlets claimed this means the useless "ban on ICBM´s by khamenei is lifted" , back in 2008 he introduced the ban.

we will see if we build now official attack ICBM´s not just "Space rockets with range above 2,500km" or not.

next step must be removing the "Fatwa against nuclear weapons"
