Ukraine made a very big and costly mistake.

they could have been enjoying advantages of their geographical position as middleman between russia and europe without ambitions to lean towards west decisively but obviously that their society did not have that kind of maturity, clarity and vision.
now it is crippled state with uncertain future for normal and prosper society.

20% of Ukrainian territory that also happens to be the agricultural and mining hub of Ukraine lost, hundreds of thousands of Ukrainians and dead and many times more crippled, millions of Ukrainians either joined Russian population or the Western and as usual, Americans left their ally in hot waters. Ukraine is done. It's future looks to be a neutral rump state between NATO and Russia.

it is way before in past, ukrainians as collective never accepted domination of russians over them, which is fine but that blurred their ability to be realistic in political and geopolitical spectrum.

I doubt that TBH. There are many Ukrainian citizens who like Russia more than the west.

i did not say that there is not but you can not conduct this brutal war if there is not enough people who are against russia by different reasons.
