There are 1.46 billion people speak English as an official language, compare to 1.35 billion people speaks Chinese. And there are double that amount who speak English but not in official language capacity





So no, there are more people who speak English officially and a lot more that speak English unofficially than Chinese.

And English as a language, is based on Indo-European language, which mean they are going to be similar to most West Germanic Language, while Chinese aren't similar to any other language in the world other than Japanese and Korean (but they aren't actually interchangeable)

As for whether or not learning which one is easier, the two are different, I speak Cantonese and English at native level, so I cannot be the one that make the comparison between the two, but, for my experience learning language (I learn German, Swedish, Japanese and Italian) english help me learn Swedish and German a lot, not as much as Italian, and Chinese only help me learn Japanese to a degree. Japanese have different syntax and sentense structure outside Kanji

That's only in Hong Kong and Macao. Cantonese children in China all learn to write the standard simplified Chinese in schools and so are all publications in Cantonese regions of China. Are you Chinese at all ?

I grew up in China and speak Mandarin. I acknowledge Cantonese and Mandarin are totally different languages.
