I understand that some groups may end up “taking” more than others. However, it is important to recognize that we are not just talking about low-income individuals trying to game the system for a few hundred dollars.Fair enough, any people can need a leg up sometimes.
It still is a bit of a stereotype, I have no lived experience of it myself, but like I said.. it seems to be common perception there that certain groups do end up 'taking' more. There probably are individuals who game the system, from across racial/political groups.
We are confronted with modern-day robber barons and big corporations who have been exploiting the system and continue to grow richer and more powerful. They have been able to significantly increase their wealth by taking advantage of tax policies that favor them.
According to data from the Economic Policy Institute, between 1979 and 2019, the average income of the top 1% grew by 160%, while the average income of the bottom 90% grew by only 26%. This disparity in income growth has contributed to increasing income inequality in the United States.
