I really feel for your people! But it is not 'a few vermin': It was the might of a Superpower and its rich powerful allies plus collaborationists like the King of Jordan against a few militias. Even Israelis must know that without America they would be doomed: True, the militias won't be able to confront head on but they would bleed Israel for so many years that the Achilles Heel of Israel--its dual citizen population--would flee in large numbers.
What this reflects is America's slide into authoratianism. But the most important take away, which most people not only here but elsewhere too, perhaps with some vague mentions in NY Times: The concept of the 'Checks and Balances' so enshrined and mostly respected in America is being destroyed. Already the Congress was falling behind their party's Presidents especially after Nixon, but now there is virtually no resistance against Trump by the Republicans.
