Did anybody visit China recently? I have been back here for the past 7 years, been through COVID and been through trump 1.0. I saw how equipment used to be made in USA replaced with Chinese made ones. At first they performed worse than American ones, then they slowly tweak it, improved it and now it is better. It is happening accross the board, we use to buy American to balance the trade, because we think American goods are better. The atmosphere is totally different now, small Chinese tech companies are given the chance to learn and improve and they are working really hard, powered by millions of STEM grads, government investments and nationalism.

WTF? Did he NOT get the memo? TSMC is building 3 fabs in AZ alone at the moment. One is already on line, the 2nd in commissioning, and the 3rd will be out of construction and ready for commissioning in the near future.

With their most recent announcement, with the plans for AZ alone, when it is all said and done, ALL TSMC Taiwan-based capacity will have been replicated in AZ.

I need to follow on what they are doing in Washington state.

Chinese government is very smart and plans decades in the future. Every time the US or West tried to cut China's access to Western technology, it turned out China had anticipated that move a decade ahead and already made contingency plans.

Also, East Asian cultures (China, Japan, South Korea) are like successful Western cultures (Germany, USA) where the country remains focused and works hard to achieve goals as a collective nation.

You do realize he hit the safety button because the long term bond yields were astronomically soaring right? We have $9 trillion of debt to be refinanced this year and Trump the idiot, didn’t think his little tariff war was going to end up in a way where the yields would escalate.

So Trump and his team got majorly spooked. Word is that it might’ve been China dumping bonds and because of Trumps erratic governance, there weren’t buyers of those bonds and that’s why the yields shot up.

Word is also that Trump has sent an emergency team to Shanghai right now to secretly meet with China. He’s already yapping about wanting to meet Xi.

Sometimes he needs to just shut the hell up. The world has dramatically changed since his first term and I think he’s just starting to realize this as he is surrounded by utter morons like Bessent, Navarro and Hegseth.

When tariffs exceed 50%, trade between China and the U.S. has been de facto cut off. Any next move to raise taxes is just a meaningless threat. The U.S. should be thinking about how to address the looming $9.2 trillion in maturing debt, and China is in good shape and has nothing to worry about.

This trade war will go on for a long time, and U.S. members of the PDF are advised to prepare for it and stock up on more supplies as soon as possible.

TSMC started moving production back to the US after Trump threatened them during his first term in office.

I am not sure you know math, 125% and 104% makes no difference. Trump works on ego not logics. He himself just said he is pausing tariffs because the bonds were getting jittery.

His 125% tariff apparently doesn’t apply to any ship which has already taken to sea. So ships that took off previous to the tariff will not be charged that. That technically gives him 30 days of breathing room to negotiate a deal with China which is why he has sent an emergency team to Shanghai overnight.
