Beside, either Trump win or China win, you can't have it both way and say Trump Tariff is a success while you say it done minimal damage to China. Because if it done minimal damage to China that mean Trump Tariff is a failure, and if Trump tariff is to be succssful it have to deal massive damage to the Chinese........
Agree and action taken

I was examining the sector breakdown of US imports from China. The tech sector accounts for $127 billion of the approximately $450 billion trade, and many of the exports can be redirected to various countries. It will involve creating more trade pipelines; Russia, Pakistan, China, ASEAN, BRICS, and the Middle East could potentially absorb more.
The problem for US is not whether or not China will divest, the problem with US is US don't make any of those thing China is making, take TV as an example. You have Samsung and LG in South Korea, and then TCL, Hisense from China, none of the TV were made in the US nor any US brand (other than Generic brand) you can buy in the US. On average you are looking at 900-1100 for a 60 inch TV from LG or Samsung, about 400-600 for the same spec in China, now with the tariff in place, you have 10% baseline tariff from SK, which mean a 60 inch TV is going to cost up to 1300 if you buy LG or Samsung, for China? You have 145% tariff in place, even if this is not going to fully transfer to customers, most general account will see that it will be between 30-50% price hike which mean no matter where you are looking, none of the TV you can buy in the US is going to cost less than 1000 after Tariff. That's the problem.

For China, it's the reverse, China need to keep production to minimise lost, the key is China cannot dump their product in EU or Asia just because they aren't going to sell more in the US, for the Chinese to play it right, they need to stay out of this, let the situation play itself out, the Chinese can try to redirect some number from the US to the rest of the world, but they should be careful not to be seen as dumping stock in Europe or Asia, otherwise it is going to work against them

Orange man was so scared that he tariff china 145%? Explain you logic plz.

China’s playing it right. Gave Trump an off-ramp with a lower counter tariff and he took the bait. Beijing steadfast demeanour as compared to Trump’s erratic and narcissistic behaviour is very telling. Trump can wait all year long for a call from China but ain’t coming.

'Do not retaliate, you will be rewarded': White House warns amid Trump's pause and punish move

US President Donald Trump. AP

US President Donald Trump has paused his sweeping reciprocal tariffs by announcing a 90-day freeze for all countries except China, which were announced by him on ‘Liberation Day.’

While most nations received temporary relief, Trump imposed a steep 125 per cent tariff on all Chinese imports. In response, China hit back with 84 per cent tariffs on US goods, further escalating the trade war between the world’s two largest economies.

The White House also warned other countries not to retaliate against the imposed tariffs, saying: “Do not retaliate and you will be rewarded.”

Donald Trump said he paused the imposition of higher tariffs on many countries because people “were getting a little bit yippy.” He said, “Well, I thought that people were jumping a little bit out of line. They were getting yippy, you know, they were getting a little bit yippy, a little bit afraid—unlike these champions—because we have a big job to do."

Such an arrogant, patronizing remark, Trump can say this to its lapdogs, but not to China, this world is full of coward and lapdog nations which are almost ready to wag their tails and cheerlead for US even after US beats them too.

I agree with your point on this; however, I believe that some costs will be absorbed by the companies while others will be passed on. Let's see what happens now that the EU is rushing to China to strike a deal. I am also curious about what they can do with the South American bloc as a whole.

looks like Apple was given advanced notice of tariffs coming

Tim Cook Dines With Trump at Mar-a-Lago

The meeting offers a chance for Mr. Cook to seek Mr. Trump’s support on several issues that could challenge Apple’s business in the coming years, including pressure on the App Store from European regulators and the potential that new tariffs could put the company’s iPhone business at risk.

If it is 10% or something like that, unlikely they will be absorbed by the supplier, especially with countries like South Korea, Taiwan and Japan, the profit margin is as thin as it is, 10% would push the supplier in the red.

EU probably will not be striking a large deal with China, more like an equal deal, EU still need the US, but instead of doing 70% of the trade with the US, they may drop to 40 or 50% and maybe increase a bit on Chinese market. The important point is China cannot be seen as taking advantage on this and start dumping stuff that they weren't selling to the US to EU, EU hate that, like a lot, if China starts dumping then I think all deal are off.

*MAJOR DEAL* Incoming between US & China
