Pakistan Solar Power: News & Updates

Pakistan is now the sixth-largest solar market globally, with a rapid adoption of solar energy as a solution to rising fuel prices and energy challenges.

According to the World Economic Forum, the country's energy sector is benefiting from its ideal climate for solar power generation, with over nine hours of daily sunshine.

Despite facing issues like circular debt and power theft, Pakistan’s shift to solar energy is accelerating, with solar panels becoming more affordable due to China’s overproduction. In the first half of the year, Pakistan imported 13 GW of solar modules, expected to reach 22 GW by year-end.

With increasing electricity tariffs, industrial, agricultural, and residential sectors are embracing solar power for self-generation.

Solar Pakistan 2025, region’s largest and only dedicated alternative energy event organized by Fakt Exhibitions (Pvt.) Ltd., concluded on Sunday at Expo Centre, Lahore. The flagship solar energy event took place from 21st to 23rd February, transforming the alternative energy landscape in Pakistan.

The three-day Solar Pakistan exhibition brought together a diverse mix of stakeholders, including policymakers, investors, manufacturers, suppliers, traders, and distributors.

The event also saw strong participation from government departments, with representatives actively engaging in discussions to explore collaborative opportunities. Several companies signed memorandums of understanding (MoUs) with government entities, paving the way for joint ventures aimed at advancing alternative energy solutions.

Additionally, multiple business agreements were finalized, further reinforcing the exhibition’s role as a vital platform for industry growth, investment, and public-private partnerships in the alternative energy sector.

Speaking on the success of the exhibition, Saleem Khan Tanoli, CEO Fakt Exhibitions, expressed his satisfaction, stating, “We are glad to witness the enthusiastic participation and engagement from both local and international stakeholders.

Solar Pakistan exhibition serves as a catalyst for driving innovation and collaboration in the alternative energy landscape of Pakistan.” Featuring over 350 national and international exhibitors from 10 countries participated in three-day exhibition which showcased their expertise, introducing variety of cutting-edge technologies.

6th largest market in the world, no surprise there considering Pakistan has the greatest of optimum climates.
No help from the government, useless thieves. Any prudent nation would be building mass panel fields, connected to the grid.
Anyway, thank goodness for cheap Chinese tech, at least our people can benefit privately.

It is just suprising that it took soo long for that realisation to take place in Pakistan given its climate and the general lack of electricity and loadshedding in general.

What will help in the long run is that battery technology will only ever improve from now on, and become cheaper aswell overtime.

Chinese panels decreased in price recently so it become viable for Pakistanis

This is a double edged sword, this will lead to reduced grid consumption, reduced income then what of cpec repayment which is based on commensurate usage and growth of economy...well that's happening off grid.

@r3alist

then what of cpec repayment

Ask the Chinese to take a hike. What can do they do? Repossess the plants?

Regards

Forcing china to have more of a presence to only hope to get more American attention in return is the sort of downward spiral logic the rent seeking khakis might be plotting ....

The viability of the state becomes the collateral

In just a few years since Chinese solar systems flooded our markets, my entire neighborhood ( not a particularly well off area ) has gone solar with net metering/ Green meters mostly. Even rural areas have been a huge shift ; a huge number of farms with at least Solar installed for powering tubewells and essential equipment.

This shift is a double edged sword though. On one hand, it’s a huge relief for people burdened by exorbitant electricity prices, finally having affordable energy. On the other hand, the government’s grid revenue is shrinking as more consumers turn to solar.

Ongrid inverters don't work well if you have power cuts. Hybrid type is better. Especially the battery less ones.

If government isn't concerned about giving it's citizens affordable electricity, clean water, quality education, adequate health facilities, security, and business opportunities,

Why should citizens bother about state's commitments to international players ?

And that's a problem

For govt ? Yes.
For citizens ? No. Because they are already deprived of basic necessities and services. They won't suffer much.
You think government won't pass it on to citizens?

The citizens are the collateral against govt corruption

That's the pattern

That should be worrying

How ? Government will make natural gas expensive ? Those with solar with start using electric stoves.

Govt will add additional cost to electricity ? No worries, already got solar.

Govt will withdraw funding from police ? Already not working. May just end the police departments.

You see. Government have punished it's citizens so much that it got no further steps to make it worse.
