Turkish Foreign Policy and Regional Geopolitics

Massive trade with Armenia. Evaluation of the Margara-Allijan ground passage. Building the Gyumri-Kars railway. Restoration of the historic Ani bridge. These all are on the border.

Armenia is asking for full restoration of the bilateral relations.

This is a good opportunity to welcome Armenia in the Turkish hemisphere, like we did with Georgia and Azerbaijan.

But we are afraid of dat slumby moneylaundering dictator of Aliyev.

Azerbaijan is supporting Israel for its own interests. They dont asked permission from Turkey. So Turkey should think about its own interests without asking permission from Aliyev.

Comparing Azerbaijan and Armenia, how would Turkey benefit more from relations with Armenia vis-a-vis Azerbaijan? Azerbaijan-Turkey trade turnover was $7.5 billion in 2023.

"In 2023, Azerbaijan-Turkey trade turnover totaled $7.5 bn, which means reaching 50% of the target of $15 bn set by the leaders of the two countries. We expect trade turnover to grow this year as well.”

Azerbaijan also has 2.6 trillion cubic meters of proven natural gas reserves. Turkey is a net gas importer. How much is it in Armenia? 0 you said?

Let’s add more: Azerbaijan has over $20 billion investments in Turkey. Including Star refinery in Izmir, which is a net contributor to Turkish economy.

Equating this to Azerbaijan-Israel relations is absurd. Turkey and Israel severed their ties long after Azerbaijan and Israel already had established ties. Maybe you have a short memory, but even during Erdogan’s presidency Turkey purchased military equipment from Israel (M-60 modernization, Harpy, Heron). Only with Mavi Marmara the relations severed.

You also talk as if Armenia has not been hostile to Turkey itself, with their “genocide” accusations and claiming parts of Turkey as “Western Armenia”.

Armenia is defeated by Turkey and thrown out of the Russian hemisphere. There are great trade and investment oppurtunities, Turkish construction firms would have a great day in Armenia.

After a peace treaty that will come too.

They still have a soviet mentality in their economy and how they do things,my friend from there keeps telling me,I think others have told me as well. They're still...well they're not like Greece and Turkey. When you come here or when Greeks to Turkey, they don't feel like in an alien country nor do the shops or the service seem different. Especially the mentality in service, stores and the people in general is very similar. But the Armenians still have that old soviet mentality,as if...well for example my friend said they don't know how to attract tourists, how to service well. A guy comes to take your order and he acts like he's doing you a favor. That's the "public servant" attitude of old USSR. A guy tries to make some quick money instead of caring for good customers.

On this front,it would benefit them if they started trading with Turkey and if there were more visits between Turks and Armenians in their respective countries. But I found that a bit doubtful. Armenians seem to have an even harsher stance towards Turks than even us.

Turkey will not engage in diplomacy that Azerbaijan does not approve of.

But Azerbaijan does engage in diplomacy with countries without or approval. How is that?

Aliyev would love to eat pilav with sheeptesticles together with Netanyahu in Baku and make selfies of it, and that would not be a problem.

But Turkey should please Aliyev’s big moustache and be careful in their relationships with other countries.

Who the heck they think they are? If it was not for us, they couldnt take their lands back from Armenia without being smashed by Russia or Iran. We own them nothing.

It is precisely this softy attitude of us that get Kazakstan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan and Kirgizia to call us ‘occupiers’ in North Cyprus.

I think you misunderstood, I am talking about Armenia.

Azerbaijan's relationship with Israel is in Turkey's favor. It opens an important dialog between Israel and Turkey in the Middle East.

There is also no change in the diplomatic position of the Central Asian countries on Cyprus. It doesn't matter if they ignore the TRNC in order to improve their relations with the EU. They have probably informed Turkey of their position.

Poor people like you can't ruin our relations with the Turkic republics.

What a stupid non-argumental reply. If the Turkic republics acknowledge the Armenian “genocide” or if Azerbaijan restores bilateral relations with South Cyprus, you will still defend it.

You are proberly a Azeri.

They already don't recognize Cyprus, has anything changed? None. Then shut up.

This country didn't send the refugees to Europe to get money from Europe, it signed a readmission agreement!!!

Stupid question. They are labeling 24 hour anti-terror operation as “genocide”. Now imagine how credible is a claim about events more than 100 years ago.

Pretty credible. Are you also saying the Greek genocide by the Ottomans didn't happen?
