Iran has developed a large force of ballistic missiles but the US and Israel are also adapting to this threat and the US has created a much larger missile defense force than Israel. The US also has security commitments beyond the Middle East so it depends on to what extent is the military buildup in this region. Now defense is but a part of the calculus. Israel and the US can create serious costs for Iran in potential exchange (the Israeli attack on Iranian military infrastructure in 2024 did cost Iran in some aspects: here). I am not sure that Israel can attack Iranian military infrastructure regularly but the US certainly can. Iran has much larger and relatively visible military infrastructure than Houthi. It eventually comes down to what extent the two sides are prepared to respond to each other. It also remains to be seen how other countries close to the US will respond to Iranian attacks. Trump is bluffing or he has a plan and serious cards to play? Time will tell.

Even if Iran wants it, they won't do it. They have more interest in US allies and the market than in signing a pact to defend Iran.

They're in talks with Saudí Arabia also. Talk is always preferable to the prior status. I don't want to be naive but It is really good. Agreed with your position.
