China hits back at Canada with fresh agriculture tariffs

Trump softens? Tariffs on China will be significantly reduced, but "not to zero"

U.S. President Donald Trump said on April 22 that he would conduct trade negotiations with China in a very friendly manner. If the two sides reach an agreement, U.S. tariffs on Chinese imports will be reduced substantially, but not to zero.

According to Reuters and US media reports, Trump made it clear in an interview at the White House on the 22nd that the United States will not take a tough stance against China in order to reach an agreement, and that US officials will not mention issues related to the COVID-19 pandemic during the negotiations.

Trump said that the United States will negotiate with China in a very friendly manner and believes that the other side will adopt the same attitude. If an agreement is reached with China and the United States on trade and tariffs, U.S. tariffs on China will be significantly reduced. They will not be as high as or close to 145%, but they will not fall to 0%.

Trump stressed that China must reach an agreement with the United States. If the former is not willing to negotiate, the United States will formulate the terms of the agreement on its own. However, he reiterated that he firmly believed that the China-US trade negotiations would go smoothly and reach a final agreement.

Trump and company better admit total defeat and surrender now before it's too late. After hitting the wall on tariffs war against China, so Yanks want to stir up ludicrous Covid 19 issue again to demand China's concessions, dream on, we know your hideous game play.

China does not buy enough compared to what it sells. China has to set a ratio - maybe purchase 90 cents or 95 cents for every dollar they sell
You can't complain when you restrict tons of your products from being sold.

Tough times for small countries like India.

Regards

India is among those countries like Indonesia who are least dependent on "Total Trade", which means for very high trade deficit as in case of India.
Once our trade relation with others will fall, our trade deficit will also fall which means to help home industries to fulfill demand 🕳️
Note: export means 'saving' and import/ high trade deficit which means 'expanse' side. As in case of India.
We don't like high trade/ trade deficit of India which comes from pocket of Indian middle class......

India is dependent on China's imports to sustain its economy and growth.

'traditionally' Chinese Products are considered 'cheap' as compared to Western one, in case of price and quality both🙂
Indian industries would be encouraged to better cheap imported Asian products 👍

I am sure China will be more than happy to buy American high tech but the US doesn't want to sell it. China can get beef and soybeans from anywhere in the world.

You can't dictate what your customer can buy and then complain that they are not buying enough of your junk.
You make it sound like USA is the problem. What excuse does China have with respect to Pakistan ? Or Bangladesh ?

@Beijingwalker

And China is dependent upon exports to keep its economy running. It doesn't have the option of not exporting.

Why you are not asking countries such as Malaysia, Indonesia, South Korea and Japan in Asia why they have significant trade surpluses with China for many years ? First, countries have to produce products that Chinese consumers want.

China has no import restrictions on Pakistani or Bangladeshi goods. It is up to those countries' businesses to find customers in China and provide whatever they need cost effectively.

Musk: China's rare earth export controls affect Tesla Optimus robot production

Elon Musk, CEO of US electric car giant Tesla, said that the production of the company's "Optimus" humanoid robot has been affected by China's rare earth export controls.

Musk said in an earnings call on Tuesday (April 22) that China wants guarantees that its rare earth magnets are not used for military purposes, Reuters reported. Tesla is working with Beijing to obtain an export license for the use of rare earth magnets.

Musk previously predicted that Tesla would produce thousands of Optimus Prime robots this year.

According to the Securities Times, high-performance neodymium iron boron permanent magnet material is the core material of robot servo motors. Public data shows that a single humanoid robot usually requires more than 40 servo motors, each of which requires 50 to 100 grams of neodymium iron boron material, with a total amount of up to 2 to 4 kilograms. Taking Tesla's "Corey" as an example, a single robot requires about 3.5 kilograms of high-performance neodymium iron boron.

China's Ministry of Commerce and General Administration of Customs jointly issued an announcement in early April, announcing the implementation of export controls on some medium and heavy rare earth-related items. According to the announcement, this export control involves seven types of medium and heavy rare earth related items, including samarium, gadolinium, zirconium, dysprosium, lutetium, scandium, and yttrium. Neodymium iron boron permanent magnet materials containing zirconium and dysprosium are also listed as relevant controlled items.

Reuters reported that exporters must now apply for licenses from China's Ministry of Commerce, a relatively opaque process that can take from six to seven weeks to several months.

It's already late.

In the two weeks since this tariff war opened, the Chinese government has been extremely efficient in signing a North American oil deal with Canada, a soybean deal with Brazil, a beef deal with Australia, and a natural gas deal with the UAE. That means all four major categories of U.S. exports to China have been replaced.

Unlike someone with no credibility, China will not betray the agreements it has just signed, so there is no longer any need to negotiate with the US.

If we really want to talk, we should wait until after July to negotiate the currency issue. The import/export trade has been completely decoupled and will not be repeated.

Maybe this time US will decide to sell high tech products such as advanced chips to China in exchange for allowing many Chinese products to enter US markets. China should get rid of US treasury bonds and assets in USD as soon as possible, they are no longer safe under US.

245%

Trump goes from overdrive to overdose.
Maybe now is good time Xi calls him?
Whats the difference between 145% and 200%? They are increasing the price, not us. It can be 1000% beyond a certain number it is meaningless. How is Vietnam licking going on? Lol
