BrahMos is a supersonic cruise missile, while the HQ-19 is primarily orientated to intercept ballistic missile defences in the exo-atmosphere. Due to the distinct nature of what it is designed for, it isn't well suited towards intercepting BrahMos as other systems are.

My own assessment of the recent conflict is that Pakistan's HQ-9 batteries did well. The issue was Pakistan not having sufficient numbers deployed which resulted in some of the Scalp-EG, Brahmos munitions getting through.

Also, contrary to India, Pakistan did not employ LACMs because of the dual-use nature of these munitions. Next go around, along with CM-400s, Babur and Taimur strikes are a foregone conclusion. I also would not be surprised if Pakistan employed hypersonic systems, however the subsonic LACMs are still very effective even in an S-400 supported ADGE given their terrain hugging characteristics.

The size of our land forces cannot be reduced just like that. What we saw was only the initial phase of a conflict. All of this would eventually lead to operations on the ground to take more or hold it.
The defense budget and per capita spend on defense has to go up in terms of the GDP.

The HQ-19 is not a good use of our limited resources, iA better investment would be to improve our ballistic missiles arsenal and increase of the yields of our nuclear bombs to the 400-500 kiloton range to ensure MAD so that a ballistic missile strike is out of the question for them.

That would be a fundamentally and completely wrong approach - completely wrong. Chances of the use of Ballistic missiles by Pakistan are tiny, and nuclear weapons even less.


Pakistan has "more" than sufficient level of nuclear deterrence as of now. Adding more is pointless waste of time, and money.

HQ-11/LD-3000 and HQ-19 along with J10CE, JF17C and J-35As are the way to go..
