KARACHI: The Sindh government on Thursday launched an integration system connecting the Bus Rapid Transport (BRT) Green and Orange lines, which is expected to increase ridership of the government-run transport services manifold.

Sindh Minister for Transport Sharjeel Inam Memon while inaugurating the much-awaited integration also announced the automatic fare payment cards for Orange Line next month, calling the recent initiatives “vision” of President Asif Ali Zardari and Chairman Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari for the people of Karachi.

“After this integration, all Orange Line buses will travel to the Green Line Board Office Station, from where passengers can board the Green Line via a pedestrian bridge,” he said while talking to reporters at the Orange Line buses depot.

Prime Minister Imran Khan on Friday formally inaugurated the Green Line Bus Rapid Transit project in Karachi, with the city's residents seeing a ray of hope for their notorious public transport woes.

The premier, who arrived in Karachi earlier in the day, was accompanied at the ceremony by senior officials, including Sindh Governor Imran Ismail and federal Planning Minister Asad Umar.

Prime Minister Imran also visited a bus station, where he inspected the infrastructure and also received a briefing on how the ticketing system works.

KARACHI: The federal and Sindh governments have joined hands to work together on a much-ambitious $3.1 billion project aimed at reclaiming land near Machar Colony for coastal developments, including four new berths and a fishing port with a world-class fisheries export processing zone.

At a meeting held at the CM House on Thursday, Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah and Federal Maritime Affairs Minister Junaid Anwar agreed to collaborate on a series of ambitious projects, including the Karachi Coastal Comprehensive Development Zone (KCCDZ).

The KCCDZ, initiated by the maritime ministry in 2021 and included in the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor, is expected to generate significant employment opportunities, with the feasibility study already complete and implementation planned in three phases across 687 acres.

According to a press statement issued from the CM house, the China Road and Bridge Corporation (CRBC) briefed the chief minister on the KCCDZ project, a joint initiative with the federal government through an existing Memorandum of Understanding.

They are slowly killing karachi.

Over 63 per cent of the work is already done, and with proper funding, we were confident of wrapping it up within a year,” said one senior official. “But with just Rs3.2bn, we are now staring at a scenario where it could take another 10 years to complete. This delay is devastating for a city already facing an acute water shortage
