PAF F-16 | Discussions

Hi,

I had heard about the pakistan / iraq deal---.

It’s the same news which references both Iraq and Egypt. From what I know, Iraq operates F-16 Block 40/42 aircraft, although some of them are reportedly grounded due to shortages in spare parts. This might have been under quiet discussion but never made its way into mainstream coverage until it was recently picked up by the 24HD Digital news channel.

36 Iraqi F-16 + CASH for 24 JF-17 block 3

That said, I’d like to add a disclaimer: this information might be fabricated or based on unverified sources, so it’s wise to approach it with caution until there’s more clarity.

And regardless of how far-fetched or controversial something may sound, we should never resort to degrading or being rude to others. Disagreements are part of any dialogue, and it’s perfectly okay to see things differently but that should never justify belittling someone just because you don’t share their view.

Only accepting it if it includes trading Garhi Khuda Baksh for one Pyramid
What are you going to do with the Pyramid? It’s very unlikely you will find the hidden treasure in it. You will need a special key for it. 🤣

Iraq operates 36 Block 52's without CFTS`, of which 8 are D-variants.

And like Egypt's Viper these too can't be armed with BVR - only Aim-9 (Sidewinders).

The Aim-7 is not exactly BVR. It's more of a Medium-range.

We operated them too, until their life ran out. There are some classic PAF Music Videos from the 80's/90's where you can see them.

Not quite sir, PAF wish they had Sparrows. They would have bagged at least 30 Soviet jets (missed a lot of AIM-9s) if they had them fielded on their Vipers, and would have engaged IAF aircraft particularly when their MiG-25s would fly into Pakistani airspace. They never operated Sparrows, it was rumoured to come with the Block 15 OCU aircraft had the those FMS programs been fully approved.

Us not operating sparrows was the reason the 90s were such a scary time for the PAF, we literally had nothing to counter Indian aircraft, our F-16s too slow to catch Indian Mig 25s, our F-16s hopelessly outraged by Indian BVR equipped aircraft.

How does the performance of the F-16 Block 52 compare to the JF-17 Block 3, excluding radar type, range, and beyond-visual-range (BVR) capabilities? Understanding the advantages of the F-16 over the JF-17 Block 3 can help determine whether to sell the F-16s to another country and use the proceeds to purchase more J-10s or retain them. One potential advantage of the F-16 could be its air-to-ground capabilities. However, this may be limited by reliance on U.S.-supplied air-to-ground munitions, which could pose a strategic constraint.

Apologies #gents on the PAF having Aim-7's.

I got confused with something else.

Why does PAF need F16s now when JF17C outclasses it for the military doctrine of the PAF ??
Vipers are useless
Even though I was originally of the idea to get Turkish updates on them and relegate them to a SEAD/DEAD role

Better to invest more in JF-17s and J-10Cs

It appears the Vipers were not used to the same extent in this skirmish as they were in 2019. I suspect Uncle Sam came down hard on the PAF after 2019, and the tactics were changed accordingly, putting the multi domain doctrine using primarily Chinese systems at the forefront, with the Vipers playing backup role.

Given how effective that was, with the J10/PL15 combo seeming to surpass the Viper/AMRAAM combo, at least in the context of the PAF, it's unlikely the Viper fleet will see any upgrade potential. That's not to say they're of no use, they should be refocused on the western theatre for COIN operations, and they'll still play a vital role in any potential wider conflict, Uncle Sam be damned. Future capital outlays for the PAF appear to be focused on fifth gen, J10, JFX, KLJ500, etc. which is the right approach.
