Syria was never a rich country, we never had the vast oil wealth of Iraq or Libya, and Assad's brutal regime mismanaged the economy for decades and was way more interested and pre-occupied in self preservation, oppressing the population, and enriching his own family and allies than building a prosperous country.

Iran has been made the whipping boy in Syrian civil war, even though US/Israel/Turkey/GCC were equally involved. Its similar to how Pakistan is the whipping boy for Afghan civil war 1980 to 2020, even though once again Soviets/Iran/US/GCC/India were also deeply involved.

The radioactivity is not the issue, uranium used to be used as a coating in plates, but the toxicity is a serious issue if it enters your blood stream. The dirt in areas where it has been used will be contaminated. It's a serious contamination.

It almost become a rite of passage for any US serviceperson to claim a disability following a war and then get benefits for life. Its become a huge problem for military budget and an issue nobody wants to tackle but knows its there. I know folks who simply got injured not in a combat zone but accident while in service and now get $9k per month in disability benefits.

No, the proposal was to use Pakistani pilots because the training takes time and we don't have enough time for Round 2. Anyway, I don't think it'd work and China is not likely to sell us jet fighters anyway.
