Frustrated Google employee wants to quit as half of his teammates are Indians

It is not just 'our Babu culture'. Many, many Americans don't want to do handy work but increasingly and wisely doing that.
It is too late for me to learn 'the trade'. I would if I were younger.
Actually, apart from the dilettante infested metropolitan cities like New York San Francisco and Los Angeles, the vast majority of Americans are pretty good with their hands. Which is why every small town and tier 2 city has a Lowes, Home Depot, Ace Hardware etc. Most American homes have a tool shed or at least a workbench in the garage. As a Mechanical Engineer I have to be good with my hands but I self-trained on handling most power tools.

In America's case, it's hard to believe that 75% of the world's H1B tech talent comes from India alone, it's painfully obvious that Indians are committing visa fraud and demographic replacement at a massive, likely state-sponsored scale.

Yes, fraud. Otherwise, there is plenty of talents in other countries for IT. I give the eastern European and east Asians high marks.
But can't blame India for exporting its surplus labor; they have plenty of that, as does Pakistan. There is no 'brain drain'. It is a myth. Many, many poor countries are overpopulated and are churning out a large number of graduates--too many to be absorbed in their own economies and so they export those people.
Indians even went in a large number to Israel in the recent Gaza-Israel conflict--yes, lined up and going to a war zone as replacement for the Palestinians who were disallowed to work in Israel after the conflict started.

I know that. I too have a large shed with all kinds of power tools. But truth be told, American Gen Z would rather go to college, party, get office jobs. Handy work can be really hard on one's body/physical health in the long run.
Anyway, this thread is about people in office jobs in America and about a large number of foreign workers in those office job. The 'Babu Culture' label doesn't apply to them.

Not just fraud but also, probably mostly, lobbying through Indian origin politicians. The fraud episodes are quite rare nowadays tbh. Same happens in UK.

The number of Pakistani H1Bs is ~1-2000, closer to the level of small European countries. There is no comparison with what India (300,000H1B + hundreds of thousands of illegals a year) does.

Yeah, Indian NRIs are currently lobbying to exponentially increase Indian 'legal' immigration to the US. They seek to turn America into the next Canada/Leicester.

I had the displeasure of visiting Toronto recently and it's REALLY bad, it would be wise for Americans to get their act together.

Yes the thread is about office jobs and foreign ( rather India) workers. Would mildly disagree here . The Babu culture label does apply in quite a few cases in the USA. The "Babu" culture is far more prevalent in India than elsewhere, and is being brought to the USA by the H1B influx..Yes, the jobs are office jobs, but particularly in the engineering disciplines the keyboard punching is a relatively small part of the entire product cycle that involves hard-core hands-on engineering. These millions of half-baked C3 "engineers " know only the keyboard, Tik Tok, & What's App, and have never held a screwdriver in their lives and don't know which way to turn to tighten a screw. They don't have a background of an industrialized society where research, design, development, and manufacturing is integrated. Those engineers are in China and they don't need H1 visas. They are comfortable designing W10 Jet engines for their fighter jets

Hopefully none of you are Googlers!

A growing conversation around workplace diversity has surfaced at Google, whwere employees are voicing concerns over cultural homogeneity within teams, particularly in engineering and technical roles. One employee, who spoke on condition of anonymity on Team Blind, described a noticeable shift in team composition over recent years. “My manager is Indian, my skip-level manager is Indian, and even their manager is Indian,” the employee said. “My team is split between India and other regions, but nearly all my teammates are Indian, except for what seem like a few hiring anomalies.”

While emphasising that the concern is not about individuals or ethnicity, the employee shared feelings of cultural disconnect and a loss of the team diversity that once made collaboration enjoyable. “There was a time when our team had people from a wide range of cultures and backgrounds, it made the environment more vibrant, open, and fun. Now, I often feel like an outlier.” The employee also suggested that this dynamic has impacted their sense of inclusion and belonging at the company, and shared that they are currently planning to leave the organisation.

The Internet swiftly reacted to the post. A user said, “In a world of woketards, it’s a rather avant garde perspective, but it doesn’t have to be.” Another noted, “You can still have fun with Indians.” Every fifth person in the world is Indian. Deal with it,” noted a user. A netizen claimed, “I am in California. All the employees in the company are Indian. The neighborhood I lived are all Indian. Sometimes I don’t know if I am in India or United States.”

“There are only 2 Americans on my team, the rest are all Indian. My pillar up to the VP is only 3% Americans. And I choose to use the term “Americans” bc i’m not hyper-focused on the team being white, I actually want to see legit diversity on our teams (race, ethnicity, gender, etc). I’m more concerned that we work for an American Company and make up a tiny fraction of the headcount. And it has absolutely nothing to do with capability/intelligence, and everything to do with ethnic empire building on the inside,” added a user.

A user claimed, “What is it with west’s obsession about having forced diversity? Like why does an engineering team or a company needs to be diverse over meritocracy? What purpose does diversity serve? Tiktok in China was built by 100% Chinese and it got adoption all over the world, so don’t say diversity is required for creating a global product. Few decades ago, US created many global brands with just Americans working for those companies.”

Nope.

Retiree.

Proud too.

Instead of making one line personal comments which I am reporting to the moderator ( @krash @Fatman17 ) why don't you look at my comments and counter these point by point.
Why personal remarks?
You want me to counter your whims and fancies with "facts" ! What exactly was the source of your cock and bull story of indians using lip sync to pass interview !

I am an IT professional but luckily I am at the tail-end of my career so won't be dealing with such things for long. I have dealt with Indians some. When they are your peers they are mostly okay; not great talent not with good language skills but okay. But when they have power over you then it's nasty. I actually left a job a few years ago because the company was acquired by an Indian company and with that came a jerk manager with his horrible attitude. He even pissed off white senior guys from the previous company but his domineering was especially reserved for me. I didn't put up with him and gave my Two Week Notice. They let me go the same day. Mutual good riddance.
I prefer to work with white Americans. I have been here for a long time and can relate to them a lot better than with talent from India (or China/Latin America etc etc).

BTW, as much as I want peace between India and Pakistan, I have come to conclude that we are not the same people. Some genetic overlap, sure. Some jokes, food overlap, sure. Some entertainment/shows overlap, sure. But over the last 8 decades we have evolved to be different enough. And Western tourists note that when they go to both countries. Even my many first cousins in India sound and feel different. Much like how the North and South Koreans have become different.
You may remember a prior posting where I reported to an Indian at one point. Came out of the consulting world. His title prior to joining our BU was Manager of Solution Support for our BU. Translation: he was a help desk manager.

Anyway, he knew how to manage up. Damn good at it. Never met a good idea he didn't claim as his own. If something went south, he couldn't run away fast enough. Absolutely no issues throwing his team under the bus to preserve his ass. Getting his hands dirty never happened. Risk adverse as all hell. Was ALWAYS someone else's fault.

When he left the company, I only wrote two words: "Good riddance".

Every thing is not IT. The world doesn't need just " keyboard coolies " as we call them, but welders, structural fabricators, hydraulics engineers, marine engineers, transmission engineers, aerospace engineers. A TIG welder with a certified AWS D1.1 or ISO 1585 rating welding pressure vessels can easily make as much or more than a software mid-level developer earning in excess of $225,000 over a normal 45 hour week.
There is a critical shortage of welders, CNC machinists, hydraulic piping installers, electrical controls technicians.
Moneywise, they don't earn any less and their jobs are far more secure. Our Babu culture doesn't allow us to encourage our youth to take up these opportunities because picking up a welding torch is considered demeaning
This! Absolutely.

Not everyone is cut out for higher education. I know a number of people who started out in the trades and have done very well.

Ha ha Curry small is bothering him I guess....

But Indian are good workers for any employer...hard working and do not make excuses...Do their job well.
Indians are as good or bad work wise as any immigrant community in the West. What separates the Indians from the rest and what's ruffled the feathers of many native born westerners is their uncanny ability for nepotism and favoritism in hiring and managing practices.

Friends of mine at the legacy Honeywell experienced that first hand.

My own experience. Spent 4 years hiring training and team building a design office with multiple trips to your Telugu heartland in Kondapur, Gacchibawli and Bangaluru Whitefield.
I am used to the "cock and bull " fake resumes and Course Completion Certificates from SriSri Vishwakarma University l
