A growing conversation around workplace diversity has surfaced at Google, whwere employees are voicing concerns over cultural homogeneity within teams, particularly in engineering and technical roles. One employee, who spoke on condition of anonymity on Team Blind, described a noticeable shift in team composition over recent years. “My manager is Indian, my skip-level manager is Indian, and even their manager is Indian,” the employee said. “My team is split between India and other regions, but nearly all my teammates are Indian, except for what seem like a few hiring anomalies.”

While emphasising that the concern is not about individuals or ethnicity, the employee shared feelings of cultural disconnect and a loss of the team diversity that once made collaboration enjoyable. “There was a time when our team had people from a wide range of cultures and backgrounds, it made the environment more vibrant, open, and fun. Now, I often feel like an outlier.” The employee also suggested that this dynamic has impacted their sense of inclusion and belonging at the company, and shared that they are currently planning to leave the organisation.

The Internet swiftly reacted to the post. A user said, “In a world of woketards, it’s a rather avant garde perspective, but it doesn’t have to be.” Another noted, “You can still have fun with Indians.” Every fifth person in the world is Indian. Deal with it,” noted a user. A netizen claimed, “I am in California. All the employees in the company are Indian. The neighborhood I lived are all Indian. Sometimes I don’t know if I am in India or United States.”

“There are only 2 Americans on my team, the rest are all Indian. My pillar up to the VP is only 3% Americans. And I choose to use the term “Americans” bc i’m not hyper-focused on the team being white, I actually want to see legit diversity on our teams (race, ethnicity, gender, etc). I’m more concerned that we work for an American Company and make up a tiny fraction of the headcount. And it has absolutely nothing to do with capability/intelligence, and everything to do with ethnic empire building on the inside,” added a user.

A user claimed, “What is it with west’s obsession about having forced diversity? Like why does an engineering team or a company needs to be diverse over meritocracy? What purpose does diversity serve? Tiktok in China was built by 100% Chinese and it got adoption all over the world, so don’t say diversity is required for creating a global product. Few decades ago, US created many global brands with just Americans working for those companies.”

There is a lot of discrimination against Indian students (workers) in Canada and yes some do not meet the criteria but vast majiority I have hired and worked in my offices are excellent workers and outstanding humans. They do not fuss about over time...running late...shorten lunch breaks....sick time....and always always go an extra mile. Only Phillipiono workers compete with them or surpass in work....

@Jango007

Jango sb,

We are a poor nation not blessed with great resources. The only thing we can rely upon is hard work. Let us hope the Indian govts (Central and state) one day pull up their socks and give ordinary Indians the chance to harness their potential.

I am an IT professional but luckily I am at the tail-end of my career so won't be dealing with such things for long. I have dealt with Indians some. When they are your peers they are mostly okay; not great talent not with good language skills but okay. But when they have power over you then it's nasty. I actually left a job a few years ago because the company was acquired by an Indian company and with that came a jerk manager with his horrible attitude. He even pissed off white senior guys from the previous company but his domineering was especially reserved for me. I didn't put up with him and gave my Two Week Notice. They let me go the same day. Mutual good riddance.
I prefer to work with white Americans. I have been here for a long time and can relate to them a lot better than with talent from India (or China/Latin America etc etc).

BTW, as much as I want peace between India and Pakistan, I have come to conclude that we are not the same people. Some genetic overlap, sure. Some jokes, food overlap, sure. Some entertainment/shows overlap, sure. But over the last 8 decades we have evolved to be different enough. And Western tourists note that when they go to both countries. Even my many first cousins in India sound and feel different. Much like how the North and South Koreans have become different.

Part of it is merit but a lot is nepotism. Indians tend to hire Indians - period.
More so, even in that there are divisions where certain Indians from certain regions want to hire Indians from that region

The funny thing is thing is I see hoardings saying "Telugu home tuition classes for your children.. $60 per hour, Call 1-800-XXX-XXXX, " This has actually reached a point that the caste, linguistic and other intra-Indian tensions have started to impact the workforce. There is an Andhra lobby of recruiters, then the Tamil, Kannadiga and Maharashtra lobby. By far the Andhra ( or minority Telengana ) lobby is the most active.
The process is pretty straightforward:
The hiring manager works with recruitment agencies delving into the data "semester course completion certificate undergraduates " ( c3) from thousands of garage rooftop "engineering colleges " with "donation fees". AI develops a resume that exactly matches the hiring requirements, and the phone interview is taken by a " Munna Bhai " for a fee.
After that it is simple. The sponsorship letter is sent to the Consulate in Chennai and the " techie " arrives in the US. Six months later he heads home to be married and exactly a year later his spouse delivers a baby anchor ensuring his future citizenship. Work ? That is done by the "goras" or the white people.
Ever since I found out about the scam I asked for accreditation and mark sheets of the candidates and either in-person interviews on site in Hyderabad or at least Google zoom video conferences. Google zoom doesn't work perfectly because, a voice over with Munnabhai speaking on a remote mike sometimes happens with the guy in the camera deliberately lowering his head or attempting to lipsync or the most common way freezing the video frame (with apologies blaming the network).

Ha ha Curry small is bothering him I guess....

But Indian are good workers for any employer...hard working and do not make excuses...Do their job well.
I beg to differ. I do the work FOR them in my work place (since they can't do it themselves) and I spank their bottoms when they make mistakes

I am only commenting on Indians that I have come across working for me...my partner is a Canadian born Indian and he is way more prejudiced against hiring Indians than I will ever be......
Those who wanna work and make a better life they work hard assimilate and are excellent and then there are those I rather not talk.....

Your Canadian partner must not be of Telugu origin. There is an intense rivalry within the Indian community with an intense North South divide, and then within the South Indian community primarily with the Andhra lobby against the rest of the South. Kannadiga, Tamil, Malayali, The Maharashtrians and others come a poor third. The Andhra lobby rules

It's better that pakistani's actually say very little on this topic.

That being said, I think I literally have very few negative experiences mostly positive

You will actually find, forget Pakistanis, that upward pressure on the pyramid pushes out other ethnicities, then what ever cyber grumblings you hear from Pakistanis don't mean anything

Until the hive mind learns how to do the work themselves, then they will spank your bottom for the work that you taught them
