R&D is worth it to develop your own independent capabilities so a foreign country can't have control over your decisions. Things with Chinese aren't always rosy, and won't always be. They will pressure you if pressure gets on them.

Pakistan should strongly pursue indigenisation and exports too. Our performance can be used to market our own products too.

Developing a new version just for 10 aircraft? Yeah not happening, PLAAF is already moving on from the J-10C, it would be delusional to think they will develop a whole new version just for us to have 10 aircraft.

I think J-15D, J-16D may not be possible until:
a) these are cleared for sale
b) there's enough budget for these for both upfront and long term maintenance, upgrades etc.

Secondly, Hornets and Flankers as EW platforms are mostly worked upon for carrier operations as you cannot carry a true EW giants onboard. PAF is using its Falcon DA20 aircraft for EW purposes. I foresee similar platforms (bigger than fighter jets, that can host multiple operators, massive equipment, long endurance) to be used by PAF in future rather than fighter jet converted EW platform. For fighter jet EW capabilities, PAF has the option to use various EW pods on its current fleet of JF-17s and J-10Cs. That won't be very powerful solution as J-16Ds but still a good option. But a real powerful solution comes from truly specialized platforms like whatever will be replacement for Falcon DA20s.

US is adding L3Harris EA-37B Compass Call as its new specialized one, non-carrier, long endurance powerful EW platform:



EDIT: PAF probably can use Embraer Lineage 1000E (like PN's sea sultan) for its own customized EW platforms.

J-16D is PLAAF E/W platform and J-15D is PLAN's

Growlers are armed with Anti Radiation Missiles for one simple mission. Seek and Destroy enemy AD.

I don't know if large slow moving E/W platforms will work in SEAD/DEAD missions because they're liability.
USAF used to have F-111 Ravens.
Believe it or not USAF relies on Navy Growlers for Jamming and SEAD/DEAD. Most recent example is US strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities.

Yes J-15D and J-16D are off the table because they're really expensive platforms.

And you're denying everything of JF-17 capabilities, First you're denying that block-3 has no PL-15 carrying capability and now you having a doubts that block-3 can't shott down enemy jets can't do SEAD/DEAD missions, who are you that, and want to confirming these capabilities of JF-17 you're 4 year old child lol
