India’s Air Force Is in Crisis

The recent conflict with Pakistan and a deadly crash underscore issues with an aging fleet and weapons procurement.

More than two months after engaging in brief combat operations with Pakistan, the Indian Air Force (IAF) finds itself in crisis. There were evident shortcomings in its performance during the May conflict—especially compared with its role in India’s wars with Pakistan in 1947-48, 1965, 1971, and 1999. In this year’s skirmish, the IAF lost several combat aircraft, though the precise number remains contested.

The IAF has a sanctioned strength of 42 operational squadrons, but its actual capabilities have shrunk to 31 squadrons at best due to India’s slow defense acquisition process. Worse still, in recent months, at least three of the IAF’s British-French Jaguar fighter jets have crashed during training operations, including in a July 9 incident that killed two pilots. The Jaguars were inducted into the IAF in 1979, and India still relies on them due to cost considerations and other hurdles.

Pressure is on know, I expect real losses may be confirmed soon

Don't worry friends. Indian guest commentators will remind us that since Trump made these claims (of ceasefire mediation...for the 24th time....and of 5 Indian jets downed), "burden of proof" is on him. Life goes on as normal in Hindustan.

Well it might take the US President to put a sock to the Indians and convince the fanboys and usual suspects.
But all those with little knowledge and connections know pretty well as what did PAF did to IAF .

I'm worried about why the West has turned against India. Are they going to use Pakistan? Pakistani short-sighted policymakers may destroy our relationship with China, while trying to keep India close to China. This is very dangerous. The signals coming from Washington and the West against India are alarming, and the applause within the Pakistan Air Force and in the UK is also concerning. These signs are not good.
Pakistan must not lose China. If India agrees on pakistanis and Chinese term s, it can be great. Organization include Russia, Pakistan, China and India. East will rull the world without any problems

West has not turned against India, i just think India's narrative of "net security provider" has taken a big hit.

US still doing deals and forming a strategic partnershipp with them, but I think the big expectations (on both sides) for the military and economic relationship have just not panned out.

US wanted a lap dog India and India just wanted help against China

India wanted US to aids its self reliance ride in the military sphere and US just wanted to sell weapons

Both sides just becoming more realistic now

The U.S. tried to position India as its frontline player against China, but that gamble is clearly falling apart. India’s obsession with PR, military bluffing, and regional dominance failed to deliver the strategic results Washington hoped for. Now, seeing Pakistan’s close alignment with China and knowing that China is poised to be the ultimate global power, the West is recalibrating. They're trying to pull Pakistan’s focus away from Beijing by offering soft praise, signals, or ‘engagement.’

Pakistan needs to play this moment with surgical precision. China is our long-term strategic ally, with deep-rooted economic and defense cooperation. But at the same time, maintaining a balanced diplomatic posture with the West without compromising sovereignty or loyalty is smart statecraft.

We don’t need to choose a master. We need to master the art of multipolar diplomacy

If I'm not wrong, Western economies heavily depend on the war industry. One of the reasons they started the war between Russia and Ukraine was to gain access to Russian resources.

Now, are they turning against India because they see that India is not compatible with their strategic interests—or because India may not be willing or able to fight back in the way they expect, making it easier to exploit?

Are they now eyeing the Indian subcontinent as a new opportunity—where, if India cooperates or becomes vulnerable, they could once again plunder its resources?

As we all know, India has a long history of being invaded and occupied—almost once every 100 years—for more than a thousand years.

Don't expect them to confirm if evidence of 6th isn't presented by PAF. Its as simple as that.

CIA probably also know by now if number is 6-0 or 7-0. But there is no point on briefing Trump on monthly basis as final number doesn't matter.

If PAF need to brag about 4th Rafale then present evidence.
