Pakistan Space Related News & Discussions

Where are we up to with this?

Pakistan needs to go to space ASAP and start planning for a space force.

In a major step forward for Pakistan’s space program, SUPARCO is set to launch a state-of-the-art remote sensing satellite on July 31 . More in this report…

Pakistan should be able to launch its own small satellites.
North Korea is able to do it. North Korean reconnaissance satellite Malligyong-1 was successfully placed into orbit in November 2023. The earlier launch of the North Korea's first satellite, Kwangmyŏngsŏng-1, in 1998 is not considered successful as the satellite had very poor capabilities.

A few of Pakistan's very early liquid fuel ballistic missiles were based on North Korean ( actually copied ex-Soviet) rocket technology,
North Korea has been using these types of (modified) missiles/rockets for its satellite launches. Pakistan should be able to launch its own military grade satellites as i5 has full access to the liquid fuel rocket motors and rocket shell technology.

SLV development in case of Pakistan is more of a geopolitical consideration than technological. Recent sanctions on Pakistani missile program and allegations like Pakistan developing ICBM may be pointing towards Pakistan's development of SLVs actually. Problem here is that these vehicles can be repurposed for ICBM with some modifications easily. Indian BM/ICBM program born out of their space program where initial aid was provided by NASA during 1960's. Pakistan also started around the same time but then we just left space domain for Indians to dominate in this region and now we are lagging behind clearly.

We hope Pakistan builds strong relations with all superpowers so they understand our desire for space exploration.

Their attention would be better spent on a space based missile shield which I am sure they are well into development to put their minds at ease.

I think now they are beginning to see that, Pakistan has always been and aimed to be a good friend of the west and their only enemy is India.

We can only wish that our Babus in GHQ and Foreign Office can pull this off. News from US side are encouraging as both side may reach to a trade deal and FTA.

It appears Pakistan does have the capability. The only country that would feel threatened by Pakistan's ICBM capabilities would be Israel and it is in Pakistan's interest to sigh a no war pact with Israel ( a bitter but necessary pill).
The threat from the fascist entity next door is far more serious and existential.
At the very least Pakistan should have basic designs ready to begin prototypes development, once the diplomatic impasse has been resolved.

Pakistan would be able to launch satellites not just for itself but also for other friendly GCC countries.

No, we don't need a no war pact with Israel, as Muslims we are in a state of war until the Palestinians are free.

Agreed however it seems impractical any establishment or political government will not go as far as doing this. This may seriously damage its legitimacy.

The GCC is moving beyond needing Pakistan for much beyond perhaps cheap labour.

They are developing their own technology which includes SLVs. You've been dragging your feet for so long everyone is leaving you behind.

Pakistan set to launch advanced Remote Sensing Satellite this week

It will help in predicting impacts of floods, earthquakes, landslides,

July 27, 2025

The Pakistan Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO) has announced to launch Pakistan’s Remote Sensing Satellite (PRSS) on Thursday (July 31), from the Xichang Satellite Launch Center (XSLC) in China.

This landmark mission marks a significant stride in Pakistan’s pursuit of space technology, promising to dramatically expand Earth observation capabilities. Equipped with state-of-the-art imaging systems, the satellite will support a range of national applications — from precision agriculture and urban planning to environmental monitoring and disaster management.

Its role will be vital in predicting and mitigating the impacts of floods, earthquakes, landslides, glacier melt, and deforestation, while enabling informed decisions for resource management. The satellite will also assist in infrastructure planning and geospatial mapping under national development programmes such as the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).

With its integration into Pakistan’s existing space fleet — including PRSS-1 (2018) and EO-1 (January 2025) — the new satellite strengthens SUPARCO’s capabilities and aligns with the goals of the National Space Policy and Vision 2047, positioning Pakistan to emerge as a forward-looking, spacefaring nation.

The launch is not just a technical milestone — it is the continuation of a transformative journey.

According to the official source, Pakistan’s modern space era was reignited in 2011 with the launch of PakSat-1R, a communication satellite developed with Chinese collaboration. That momentum carried forward with PakTES-1A and PRSS-1 in 2018, reinforcing the strategic partnership with China in advancing space science.

In 2024, PakSat-MM1 brought high-speed internet to underserved areas, while the launch of iCube Qamar, a student-built satellite from the Institute of Space Technology (IST), captured stunning images of the lunar surface, showcasing the innovation and promise of Pakistan’s young scientists on a global stage.

Most notably, in January 2025, Pakistan launched its first fully indigenous satellite, Electro-Optical Satellite EO-1, developed entirely by Pakistani engineers and scientists. Designed for agriculture, disaster monitoring, and environmental analysis, EO-1 stood as a bold symbol of Pakistan’s growing technological self-reliance.

Now, with the launch of the latest remote sensing satellite, Pakistan reaffirms its resolve to harness space technology for national progress, sustainable development, and global recognition- a proud moment in our journey from aspiration to achievement.

We can wait till the inevitable capitulation of the Arabs to Israel .We can and SHOULD follow suit. After that we are free to make our own choices. We have no direct quarrel with Israel.

Meanwhile we should preserve the 1950's vintage rocket motor designs. Russia still uses them to ride to the International Space Station.
I think Pakistan has liquid oxygen manufacturing units also.

Just a thought

I'm no rocket scientist but it shouldn't be difficult theoretically for Pakistan to design an SLV, it's more of a priority & funding thing by the leadership. It doesn't seem like a big hurdle to get a functional one.
