India - US Tariff and Relations | News + Updates

This only shows that India must be thrown out of BRICS. India is the spoiler

BRICS is the combination of the fastest growing economies in the world. India is the fastest growing economy in the world.

NEW DELHI: The ministry of external affairs on Friday rejected suggestions of any strain in India-Russia relations following sharp attacks from US President Donald Trump, who questioned the economic and strategic ties between the two countries.

Responding to questions at the weekly briefing, MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said: “Our bilateral relationships with various countries stand on their own merit and should not be seen from the prism of a third country. India and Russia have a steady and time-tested partnership.”

Jaiswal, when asked about Trump’s broader comments, reiterated the importance of the India-US partnership: “India and the United States share a comprehensive global strategic partnership anchored in shared interests, democratic values, and robust people-to-people ties. This partnership has weathered several transitions and challenges. We remain focused on the substantive agenda that our two countries have committed to and are confident that the relationship will continue to move forward.”

He declined to comment on Trump’s suggestion that India might one day purchase oil from Pakistan, saying, “I have no comments to offer in this matter

On questions related to sanctions imposed by the US on Indian companies trading with Iran, Jaiswal said, “We have taken note of the sanctions, we are looking into it.”

He also addressed reports suggesting Indian oil firms had stopped sourcing Russian oil: “You are aware of our broad approach to energy sourcing requirements, that we look at what is available in the market and the prevailing global situation. We are not aware of any specifics.”

Russia has remained India’s top oil supplier in recent months, accounting for nearly 35–40 per cent of its imports—up from just 0.2 per cent before the Ukraine war

Love this declaration by India. This also shows that being opportunistic is not the only name of the game in geopolitics. Long time relationships do matter. Russia stood by our side in some of our toughest times and Indian decision not to abandon them in theirs is highly praiseworthy.

Fact that India has declared this, with tariff sword hanging over our heads, also shows what leverage Trump has on us and what India thinks of Trump’s Tweets about our economy being dead.

This is also a mirror for many people, who claimed that Trump is dictating things to India.
Now that India has openly taken this stand, they can’t digest this either.

Bro, don't be offended. But South Asians have slave's mentality. Don't mix national interests with modern day slavery.
Bro, shouldn’t you actually appreciate India’s approach?

India is walking a tightrope, balancing between the West’s pressure and its own strategic interests — and that’s no easy task, especially when the U.S. and NATO are pushing hard for India to fully align with them.

Ask yourself: how many countries today openly say they’ll keep strong ties with Russia? Very few. India is one of the last major country doing it — and doing it without collapsing under pressure and surrendering its autonomy.

In a world of black-and-white alliances, India’s gray-zone diplomacy is bold — and deserves recognition.

The acts of America, again proving that they are not trustworthy.

Buying sophisticated weapons and aircrafts from them, more problems than solution.

India should avoid it

US has never been a reliable partner with any nation ever barring Israel.

Canada was their bum-chum. Look at the tariff imposed on them. Europe was their closest ally and look at what Trump and Vance have said against them.
Pakistan has also faced the same music multiple times. They have been used and thrown away so many times but some folks are still gloating over this preferential tariff of 19% to them.

India has decided to take it slow with tariff situation. The cost of capitulating to US pressure and allowing them farm sector access is much higher than 25% imposed on us.

@Dalit bro, @hydrabadi_arab

Not good enough. Pick a side.

You guys are telling us that Pakistan is now in both the US and PRC camps. But you want us to pick a side?

Regards

India is in QUAD and BRICS, you want to reap the benefits of QUAD without contributing anything meaningful. Just laser eyes and empty slogans. Pakistan having ties with both China and US is different.

The tweet below is a pretty accurate summary of India’s unique dilemma and downfall with the US.

@A1Kaid

Now that you guys are the blue eyed boys of both the hyperpowers- USA and PRC- what do you want to do to contribute to the two?

Regards

but we did reap benifits of both sides.
And we will continue reaping benifits on both sides into the future too.

India should reform things here. Price controls cause artificial scarcity and there is valuable export market to US in pharma generics. Indian market cap and innovation could use more price signalling to climb the value ladder more anyway.
The companies that supply pharma stuff to US aren’t likely to be affected badly. Since, most nations who can provide alternate supply are in a similar ballpark tariff band as India.
Secondly, shifting of phrama manufacturing has long gestation period and the FDA approval requirements make it a tedious and long wound up process.
Any entity keen to make use of this would have to consider cost -benefit analysis before taking the plunge because, Trump being Trump might change the duties to any country based on his whims and fancies and make such an attempt fall flat for that country.

Additionally, the Indian pharma exports have gained this position based on the value proposition provided by them and is unlikely to be affected by this tariff.

Not saying that Pharma is immune but not as badly affected as thought by many.

You can only remain neutral when you pick a side... When you play on all sides, that means you are with no one, hence no one is with you.
After a certain point, if you need someone to hold your hands, you're not really that powerful or independent. The geopolitical reality is constantly changing the good guys today are bad guys tomorrow. Staying neutral allows a degree of independence.

Completely trash of an assessment. He has combined facts with fiction to sound like an expert.

The Indians have the correct approach to foreign relations and balance both sides, which the Pakistanis could learn from. They were in a similar situation during the Cold War and managed both sides adequately.

There is a Chinese story about the warring period between Han and Wei. A third king wanted to get involved, but his advisor advised him not to. The advisor relayed a story of a hunter who wanted to kill two tigers and was told by an associate not to intervene, as the mountain could only have one dominant tiger to rule; thus, the two tigers fought, one was injured, and the other was dead. Hence, the hunter came and killed the injured one and took both. India has the strategic patience and will not expend energy needlessly in a conflict with China.

The Indian's, while they do stupid things, are very shrewd people when it comes to survival and business; I have over 300 clients on the risk management side 95% being Indian, and I can testify that a Pakistani couldn't hold a candle to them, they are shrewd business man and women, and they are heavily involved in grass roots politics and decision making centers in the West to shield themselves back home.

Let's see how the Indians survive Trump. I want to see how shrewd the Indians really are. Can they outsmart Trump? I don't think so, but time will tell.

That remains to be seen now with the incoming tarrifs.

The writing is on the wall, but you being a stubborn Indian think you can outplay the Trump administration. You cannot. You will have to make concessions and the Americans will arm wrestle you to make sure.
