India - US Tariff and Relations | News + Updates

It's the world's largest democracy going up against the most powerful democracy.

There seems to be tacit support for Indian resistance against USA from organisations like BRICS.

India has called out the bluff that America reigns supreme as the sole superpower of the world.
BRICS is more of a symbolic organisation. They don’t have real teeth to make a mark. India is unlikely to get overly excited over supportive statements from BRICS.
India would have to evaluate the situation on its own merit and decide the best path.
India hasn’t called a bluff but just indicated it’s stand over the issue. Trump can still muddle the party.
It is expected that many supportive voices for India from within the US are likely to have an impact.
The outcome is likely very soon.

India has significant leverage in the USA. Recently a high level delegation was sent led by Sashimi Thoror to activate many lobbies. India can force US Presidents hand from within the United States.

The Indian economy can sustain some concessions but they would make America work for it. As Tharor has lobbied, America cannot become great again at India's expense. Indians and Americans share a common goal of becoming great, again.

Becoming Great?

I am counting on just remaining relevant. Becoming great is too Hi-Fi of a slogan sold and bought by those beyond my pay grade.

You are 1.5bn weak. You will somehow always be relevant in the world of Lagaans and Jizya. Have some self respect Indian.

The 25% tariff on India is generous compared to 35% on Canada. Trump may increase tariffs and penalties on India if they don’t follow US demands.

Have you ever heard any Chinese leader ever say that they want to become this or that?
In certain matters it is better to be humble, keep your head down and just do the work. Greatness would fall in line.
Shouting at top of your vice might attract unnecessary attention and vultures in this tough world.
In our case, it is a long way away and head down+hard work would work much better.

China will support India on this issue.

In fact, a lot has changed in recent months between China and India. While the two sides continue to argue in public opinion, they have actually taken many concrete steps to improve economic and trade relations.

China will not allow the United States to defeat India through a tariff war.
别搞笑,老哥,印度今天面临的就是,两面不是人,他同时得罪了美国,中国,和俄罗斯,中国不可能和印度组成任何关税同盟,中国希望美国向印度征收重税

Don't be funny, what India is facing today is that it is not popular on both sides. It has offended the USA, China, and Russia at the same time. It is impossible for China to form any customs alliance with India. China hopes that the USA will impose heavy taxes on India.

When it comes to the government's strategic decisions and direction, we need to look beyond what the government says and observe its actual actions.

The idea of China helping India counter US tariffs doesn't mean China will give India money or benefits, nor does it mean the two countries should develop close relations.

China needs to sell goods in large quantities, and India needs to buy goods in large quantities. Previously, certain goods were not circulated between the two countries. Some were due to sales restrictions in China, while others were due to import restrictions in India.
Now, both countries are facing a US tariff war. Therefore, we are moderately relaxing some controls on each other to overcome difficulties together.
On a technological level, the Chinese government is continuously refining its technology control catalog. We will leave these areas to the legal system to regulate. Exporting non-regulated technologies to India will not have a significant impact.

The Adani Group is currently in talks with BYD for lithium-ion battery technology. This is an outdated technology that China is already beginning to phase out. However, it remains an advanced technology that is out of reach for India. If the Adani Group can offer a high enough price, then this technology should be transferable. ------ Six months ago, this technology was not transferable.

I use the word "help" because China can sell its goods to many countries besides India. And many of the goods India needs can only be provided by China......

As for a deeper analysis. Since this is an international forum, further discussion is inappropriate.
So, let's stop here!

Trump ramps up tariff on India to 50pc with additional 25pc hike

United States President Donald Trump on Wednesday imposed an additional 25 per cent tariff on India for continued purchases of Russian oil amid the Ukraine war, taking the total tariff imposition to 50pc.

In an executive order issued from the White House, Trump said: “I find that the Government of India is currently directly or indirectly importing Russian Federation oil.

“Accordingly, and as consistent with applicable law, articles of India imported into the customs territory of the United States shall be subject to an additional ad valorem rate of duty of 25pc.”
