Pakistan Navy Aviation

PN is now operating many varied aircrafts types that can pose serious logistical problem in near future; Orion, E100, ATR, Britten Norma Defender/Islander (Operated by MSA but maintained by PN) and assorted EW/Comm aircrafts

E100 replacing Orion. PN will just operate E100, ATR and Hawker as aircraft. Not that bad. Also E100 fleet and ATR fleet are massive worldwide, so getting spares, training for technicians and overhaul facilities should be easy. In case of ATR all these can be sourced from PIA's Karachi base. One of the reasons ATR was selected.

I suspect that it is the issue of doctrine. Using ship board helos for ASW have never been a strong point of PN. I don't know about using them as targeting platforms for OTH vectors.

I think PN is not a blue ocean navy in its true sense, therefore it has offloaded ASW role to its airborne assets in the shape of the Orion's, ATR's, and the upcoming Sea Sultan.

Therefore, I believe, shipboard helos have been relegated to comms, AShM role at best.

Littoral ASW role is being carried out by the erstwhile Sea King which, I believe, will have priority in replacement over shipboard helos.

You are right I think, often PN ships operate with no organic chopper

Can't they go for Osprey 50 which is more advance??
Marine Corps use Ospreys to fly Marine Expeditionary Units from amphibious landing ships. Where do you think Ospreys would fit in. The only role they will be able to do drop SSG-N and Marines.

The best option is Z-20J/F these two variants will be able to fulfill almost every role.

Osprey 50 is a radar
