8 Mk1 standard trainers and 10 Mk1A standard trainers were ordered

Given 8 Mk 1 trainers have already been manufactured and are flying and this particular aircraft has a tail number LT 5209 it only makes sense to assume this is a Mk1A trainer,

So following LT-5208 as the final Tejas Mk. 1 Trainer this is the first Tejas Mk.1A Trainer?

What part of "LT 5208 the last Mk1 trainer took first flight in January" did you not understand.

They are not delivered to the IAF because their engines are being reused for flight testing new Mk1A

Easy my over agitated Hindustani chum, that number can mean anything, last time HAL showed CAS MK1As they were all single seaters, even those had no engines

Yes LT 5209 is the 1st Mk1A trainer but the picture in your post shows a prototype Tejas Trainer PV-5 (KH-T2009) which first flew in 2009

There's a new trainer in yellow primer in the right hangar must be the last Mk1 trainer LT 5208

There's a new mk1A in primer in the left check out hangar. Must be LA 5038.

Assuming it's LA 5038, 6 MK1A aircraft in 10 months while suffering from supply chain issues doesn't seem like that bad of a deal

The first Mk1A batch trainer (technically its a Mk1 FOC standard aircraft) LT-5209 was spotted in August in an India TV news report

we again spotted the 9th Tejas Mk1A LA-5041 in the same video too

According to the orignal timeline HAL had to produce 12 Tejas Mk1A in FY2024-25 and as of right now HAL has produced 10 Tejas Mk1A (not good but not terrible either)
And if HAL CMD's last interview is to be believed We may see LA-5043 roll out from the nasik assembly line in this very month making that the 12th Mk1A aircraft.

Who knows if the issue is on GE side or HAL side. Maybe HAL told GE to slow down the delivery since they can't install all the engines in a quick process.

Well, we saw this type of delay many times in the past years. Let's wait and see if the Mk.2 will fly or not at the end of 2026. Good luck to HAL.

Are any explanations given for this delay?

In fact "originally" (2022) HAL planned a roll out by December 2023 ... and this was step by step postponed to October 2025 (in 10.2024), by end of 2025 (2.2025) and now May 2026! 😯

What are the excuses now?

I believe it. As this latest time approaches, it will continue to be postponed...
