The final agreement for the export to Spain is anticipated to be signed by the end of this year.In fact Spain wanted to develop our own supersonic trainer. But after M346, Hurjet, Golden Eagle, L15 and the much inflated Red Hawk... someone on the DoD finally understood that there is not space for a new model.
I think it is a good aircraft. Now just let it be. It is too early for any realistic assessment. The good starting point it is Turkey is allowing clients to develop and entering the program. That was the main reason why Ejército del Aire discarded M346.
TAI will manufacture approximately 15-20 Hürjets using Turkish avionics without any modifications.
The second batch will involve building the remaining aircrafts with Spanish avionics (maybe even in Spain?).
In the future all Hürjets produced with non-Spanish subsystems will also be upgraded to include Spanish avionics.
Basically, Hürjet in name but eventually 100% Spanish. It's a great agreement for both parties. Literally a win-win for Spain and Türkiye.
