Jinnah Class Frigate | Updates & Discussion

Is P282 really in service with the Navy??.
Only known test is of Smash which is a short range weapon.

I think SMASH is the p282 missile. But many believes otherwise. There is no 100% confirmation. After SMASH test, I didn't heard about p282 anywhere.

There was tender for storage complex of P282 missile after that all the rumors regarding it went cold. Smash program was running in parallel to P282.
The Naval chief termed it as long range HBM, Smash is short supersonic ballistic missile.
Secondly smash is meant for F22p frigates.
P282 was meant to be the Mainstay ASM. Last year or so with test of Smash a NOTAM Was given out of 1500km range but was Cancelled. recently a NOTAM of similar range was given panzerkiel said it was Abdali test who knows maybe Navy utilized this NOTAM too.
All these Hint towards longer HBM, maybe Navy is keeping it's surprise for indians, they will get a Naval PL15 moment too.

I think Smash is navalised FATAH 2
Both have the same diameter and almost the same weight
Exactly, the fin profile and everything.
Secondly we didn't test from the recent frigates we bought from china. It's purpose seems to to give F22ps a stronger punch if it was to be deployed on Jinnah class or Tughril frigates the test would have happened from Tughril class not F22p

Yes I know all that.

But our ships have only limited Ashm carry capability (8 max) and we have limited surface fleet. SMASH test was done from Zulfiqar class frigate. If We have P282 or its near completion then it makes no sense to equip our fleet with a less capable missile. All of our ships should be armed with P282. (if supposedly that's most capable of all)

In india's case Brahmos has fleet wide adoption. Why we are having Harbahs, then SMASH and now P282s ? So that's why I think P282 & SMASH are the same ones. Do you have interview link of Naval chief saying P282 as hypersonic? I have noticed higherups calling high supersonic weapons as hypersonics. Just like we like to say everything "indigenous". We do make such mistakes. So I won't bet on it over the evidence. P-282 was an internal name. None of our missiles have had such name. This name is not going to be real name of missile. It had to eventually given a name and SMASH could be that name. Again there is no 100% confirmation. Only PN official release or a test will clear all confusions.

Navy's PL-15 moment could come and in my opinion it could be through CM-302 onboard Tughrils. Those are supersonic cruise missiles, now who knows if we only have export versions or the original ones. Same story as PL15s.

It's basically a rip off of Istanbul class frigates 2x4 bit is true, P282 is a puzzle.
Lately PN ships have been carrying less than 2x4. Type-54 has only 2x2 and I think Babur class only 2x3(?). It probably has something to do with missile weight also. So for Jinnah class we can't be sure yet what missile and what configuration it will end up with.

It's yrs old brother that speech is lost now.
F22p is not our Frontline asset its ughrils and Jinnah class or it have to do with purpose of F22p within the Navy.
All I can tell is the Naval abbasi Said Navy is working on development of ship launched long range hypersonic ballistic missile and SMASH is not that in any category

Oh you are talking about famous CN Abbasi speech. Yes I have listened to that one. I now remember. He did mention about p282 as
1- "hypersonic".
2- Ship based
3- Long range
4- Ballistic missile.

SMASH fills all those checks except first:
1- Supersonic (could be high-supersonic, not confirmed)
2- Ship based
3- Long range ( In 2 interviews, I have heard PN officers calling SSM onboard Tughrils as Long range Antiship missiles.. Those CM302s likely have range bw 290 to 400 km. So 350 KM comes in long range definition for navy antiship arsenal. )
4- Ballistic missile

BTW, on the Jinnah Class frigates, he specifically mentioned only one ship. The 5th ship. Same I had heard on PTV interview of retd rear admiral who called milgem project as 4+1 (4 baburs and 1 JCF). So that means only 1 jinnah was planned initially.
