TF-X / KAAN / Hürjet Turkish Fighter & Trainer Aircrafts News & Discussions

In fact Spain wanted to develop our own supersonic trainer. But after M346, Hurjet, Golden Eagle, L15 and the much inflated Red Hawk... someone on the DoD finally understood that there is not space for a new model.
I think it is a good aircraft. Now just let it be. It is too early for any realistic assessment. The good starting point it is Turkey is allowing clients to develop and entering the program. That was the main reason why Ejército del Aire discarded M346.
The final agreement for the export to Spain is anticipated to be signed by the end of this year.
TAI will manufacture approximately 15-20 Hürjets using Turkish avionics without any modifications.

The second batch will involve building the remaining aircrafts with Spanish avionics (maybe even in Spain?).

In the future all Hürjets produced with non-Spanish subsystems will also be upgraded to include Spanish avionics.

Basically, Hürjet in name but eventually 100% Spanish. It's a great agreement for both parties. Literally a win-win for Spain and Türkiye.

Spanish government have discarded recently F35.

Instead of purchasing the US fighter, the government would consider only "european" options, that aside of the Eurofighter, only available options are "Rafale" and "Grippen".

I rather would consider the KAAN option. While it is too soon and it is still far to be considered a operative combat aircraft, because it is still at development stage, Spanish industry could participate in developing and assembling the aircraft.

I am not a fan of actual Turkey president, but aside from political considerations, turkish industry have let Spain to participate in Hurjet project and may also consider to participate in KAAN for replacing F18EM and securing the critical logistical lines that Lockheed Martin will never do.

Seems that Portugal and Switzerland are seeking for alternative models. And KAAN, KF21 are only other real 5gen or 4.9+++ western aircraft available.

These days, Spain is my favorite country. Both their reaction to Israel over the Gaza events and their participation in the Hürjet project, trusting in the Turkish defense industry, have increased my sympathy for Spain.

Spain’s participation in the Kaan project would be welcomed by the Turkish defense industry. Moreover, Hürjet’s cockpit and displays will be fully compatible with Kaan, and the training carried out with Hürjet will be geared towards Kaan.

I hope Spain seizes this opportunity and joins the project at an early stage. For Türkiye, sharing the costs would be much more efficient, and Spain would also develop its aviation industry and acquire significant technologies.

"The (unofficial) cancellation of the F-35 leaves us with a multi-year capability gap that the Eurofighters can't handle. What if we consider the Turkish option?
In this article, I share a possible option that could give us strategic and industrial capability."

The Spanish establishment is still highly pro-American meaning that whatever secret we share with the Spanish will end up in the hands of the Americans (and Israelis).
Then let’s not sell it to anyone. (!) One way or another, it will end up in the hands of the U.S. and its allies.

What matters is the software; if we provide it as a closed system, they won’t be able to access it.

Paranoia.

Besides, the US probably already knows everything about the KAAN, considering how deeply they've infiltrated Turkish defense institutions over the decades.

Exactly.

The Turkish assets will gladly handover whatever required document to Israel and America.

Not remotely accurate.
