Lebanon-Israel War | 2023-present

This is our nation together. We live in dignity together, and we build its sovereignty together - or Lebanon will have no life if you stand on the other side and try to confront us and eliminate us," its leader Naim Qassem said in a televised speech.

Full quote saying if you side with Israel Lebanon will basically lose all life as in its dignity Iran observer isn’t credible and they do things misleading I’m sure you know that
I think Qassem is referring to what I call The Rules: in Lebanon every ethnic or political group is allowed some redoubt, some existence, rather than be eliminated entirely. Even the Jewish community exists in theory - Hezbollah even helped rebuild the synagogue in accordance with The Rules, even though there's virtually no Jews still living in Lebanon.

Doubtless Lebanese would prefer Hezbollah adhere to the Taif Agreement and disarm (probably more accurately, bury their arms) like everyone else did. So I actually think there's some negotiating room here for Qassem - as long as Hezbollah gives up on the idea of attacking Israel.

“...Lebanon has been taken out of the (Resistance) axis that has existed for decades.”

“Yes, I know that, they used to brag about certain issues, like saying Tehran controls four Arab capitals. I believe that that time is over. Lebanon’s decisions are being taken from Beirut, at cabinet, not anywhere else. No one dictates to us what to do; not from Tehran or Washington.”

- Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam

Israel says release of citizen held in Lebanon ‘positive step,’ as Beirut signals tougher stance on Hezbollah

An Israeli citizen who spent more than a year imprisoned in Lebanon was released Thursday in what Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu called “a positive step and a sign of things to come.”

But Israeli officials stressed the case was not connected to negotiations over hostages held in Gaza, and Netanyahu appeared to be referring instead to recent Lebanese government measures targeting Hezbollah.

The freed man, identified as Salah Abu-Hussein, is from the northern village of Rumana and suffers from mental illness, according to his family. He disappeared in July 2024 while working in Tel Aviv. Relatives said they filed a missing person report with police but only learned Thursday that he had crossed into Lebanon and been detained there.

“For all this time, we didn’t know he was in Lebanon,” one family member told Ynet. “We are very happy he came back alive. The government worked to bring him back without telling us, and today we finally learned the details.”

The Prime Minister’s Office said Abu-Hussein’s return was achieved without any prisoner exchange and that “the circumstances of the case are under security review.” Israel’s coordinator for captives and missing persons, retired Brig. Gen. Gal Hirsch, handled negotiations through the International Committee of the Red Cross, which facilitated his release after months of quiet contacts.

Netanyahu’s comments hinted at wider regional diplomacy. He praised recent steps by Lebanon’s government, which — encouraged by U.S. envoy Tom Barrack — has pledged to move forward with efforts to disarm Hezbollah and consolidate all weapons under state authority.

Barrack, sent by U.S. President Donald Trump to mediate with Syria and Lebanon, has reportedly pressed Beirut to rein in the Iran-backed terrorist group in exchange for international pressure on Israel to withdraw from Lebanese territory, halt airstrikes and release Lebanese prisoners. Abu-Hussein’s release was described as a goodwill gesture, possibly linked to these talks.

Still, Israeli officials emphasized that the United States was not involved in securing Abu-Hussein’s freedom and that the matter was handled strictly through the Red Cross. Some analysts suggested the precedent could eventually open the door to similar involvement in Gaza, where the organization has so far played no role in negotiations over Israeli hostages.

Lebanese politics remain sharply divided over the disarmament push. On Aug. 7, the country’s cabinet debated a motion to centralize all weapons under the state, effectively dismantling Hezbollah’s armed wing. Shiite ministers walked out in protest, demanding that any such discussion take place only after Israel withdraws, returns Lebanese prisoners, halts airstrikes and contributes to postwar reconstruction.

Despite their absence, the cabinet voted to endorse the framework presented by Barrack. Earlier, on Aug. 5, Lebanon’s military had been tasked with drafting an implementation plan for exclusive state control of weapons by the end of the month. Analysts say the debate is far from over, but the moves have signaled an unusual show of determination by Beirut to confront Hezbollah’s dominance.

For Israel, Abu-Hussein’s return closed a yearlong mystery for his family, but it also highlighted broader diplomatic currents. Whether Lebanon’s steps against Hezbollah develop into real change — and whether the Red Cross role could extend to other fronts — remains an open question.

That is just 1 of 2 steps; once the state of Lebanon forces Hezbollah to disarm, we can expect Israeli intervention once they build back up their forces.

Except Hamas and Islamic Jihad of course 🙂

Hidden in the hills: French peacekeepers uncovering Hezbollah's remnants in Lebanon

by Naharnet Newsdesk Yesterday

A convoy of armored vehicles carrying French peacekeepers barrels through southern Lebanon. Last year's war between Israeli forces and Hezbollah left villages scarred and empty. Rubble lines the roads. Torn Lebanese flags and Hezbollah banners flutter from shattered buildings.

From a UNIFIL base above Kafr Kila, the town below looks like a wasteland of crumpled concrete. Across the valley, bulldozers churn dust as they build new positions on land held by Israeli forces despite the November ceasefire.

French peacekeepers trek up wooded slopes in the Slouki Valley, under the hum of an Israeli drone. Less than 200 meters in, they uncover remnants of a Hezbollah post: a cannon hidden among trees, an abandoned shack with blankets, playing cards, and books—frozen traces of fighters who once occupied the hillside.

Electrical wires snake toward destroyed rocket launchers. Empty rocket cartons and torn manuals litter the hillside.

"We find all kinds of weapons — rocket launchers, cannons, small arms, mines, IEDs, ammunition," said Col. Arnaud de Coincy, commander of UNIFIL's Force Commander's Reserve, about 700 French and 200 Finnish troops.

Earlier this month, Lebanese soldiers were killed dismantling an arms depot. Their deaths underscore both dedication and the urgent need for support.

At a base in Deir Kifa, peacekeepers track Israeli overflights with a Mistral missile system. On this day alone, they counted more than 10 drones.

UNIFIL's future depends on an upcoming Security Council vote. Critics call it costly and ineffective. Lebanon's government says the force is vital.

Okay so I can actually believe this is true but i also believe Israel is using this as pretense to attack Iran right now and from what the article is saying anything could happen in the next few days. I definitely believe Iran will be looking for retribution but unless they shored up their defenses a I think the Israelis are using what future plans Iran may have as an excuse to attack I hope if there is another flare up the Iran and Hezbollah get the first several hits in but I definitely feel something is coming they’re already telling everyone hey we’re going strike Gaza in “mid September” now they’re dying Hezbollah are about to commit to some strike on Israel in a “few days” I think maybe this next week things might start actually start something big

Hezbollah has no weapons or interest to start something with Israel. Iran also has no effective means to fight back. Israel is not in an economic shape to resume a war this soon.

For Israel it achieved what it wanted in Lebanon and Iran. It's now working on Syria, weakening the government there and trying to get it to accept demilitarization. On top of Gaza and Lebanon

And by looks of it they're going to succeed simply because Arabs and Muslims won't take any initiative to counter Israeli power moves in the region. Israel is cementing regional dominance for decades to come. Arabs, Turkey and Iran are watching and settling for status quo.

Hamas gave them all a wake up call on October 7, warning them of long term complications of their restraint, inaction, and abiding by status quo --- but nobody took it seriously.

Hezbollah may not be what it was yesterday but like with every situation every group adapts they still have plenty of weapons and people if they didn’t Israel wouldn’t be desperately trying to destroy those depots wouldn’t be taking out low level commanders it’s seems that the new leadership has gone totally underground.

Israel’s(bibi) doesn’t care about its(his) economic situation he thinks trump will bankroll his wars at least for the short foreseeable future as long as he can keep trumps ego going.

I said they are saying the Iranians and Hezbollah are planning to attack in the next few days perhaps doesn’t mean it’s necessarily true this could simply an excuse for Israel to keep prolonging wars so Bibi can stay out of jail and keep strengthening his base and taking out any form of descent in the courts
Forgot to add if this is a ploy Iranians might as well just unleash all of their cards they have left I am sure they have gone over many of the mistakes and also many achievements in the last round and if they actually strike first can succeed in achieving a deadly blow Israelis nor the Americans have been able to replace those interceptors that were used up no matter if they were trying to 24/7 after the last round even reports say it will take years to replace everything that was used
