Russian specialists from the Sukhoi Design Bureau have successfully tested a prototype of a huge heavy vertical take-off and landing UAV. The BTS-VAB UAV is equipped with a hybrid power plant; the drone includes an electric lifting power plant and a piston propulsion engine. Vertical takeoff and landing are carried out by lifting electric motors located on the wing beams. Take-off, route flight and landing are performed fully automatically, without operator participation. During tests on the flight stand, control algorithms and operation of takeoff, hovering and landing systems were tested. The Sukhoi Design Bureau UAV does not require specially prepared sites for takeoff and landing and will allow solving a wide range of transport and logistics tasks. The drone can also accommodate weapons or reconnaissance equipment; the payload capacity of 300 kilograms allows this to be done. At the moment it is known that the UAV’s flight range will be up to 500 kilometers.

MAD and sonobuoys are only good for detecting of moving submarines not stationary submarines

Incorrect.

MAD, as name suggests, detects magnetic anomalies when compared with the background magnetic field of envionment. A submarine at a shallow enough depth, even though completely inert and stationary, exists as a substantial metallic object and creates distortions around it. What counters MAD is puting more water between the ASW aircraft and your submarine.

As for sonar buoys or towed arrays, if referring to active sonar arrays, operates similar to SAR instead of passively listening for noise emitted by the submarine. Modern sonar buoys and towed arrays usually combines passive and active functions, which pushes the engagement range between submarines and ASW vehicles far beyond days of WW2 and cold war.

The President of Russia visited the Kazan Aviation Plant named after Gorbunov, where he talked with aircraft manufacturers and boarded one of the aircraft. The Tu-160 supersonic bomber entered service in 1987, later it was upgraded to the Tu-160M and Tu-160M2 versions. In the modernized aircraft, most of the equipment, automatic on-board control system, fuel management complex, aviation system, and weapons were replaced. The new information and control system of the aircraft made it possible to abandon analog instruments. The aircraft can carry Kh-555, Kh-101, Kh-15, Kh-22 and Kh-55 missiles. After inspecting one of the aircraft, the President of Russia proposed giving it the name "Mintimer Shaimiev".
