India - US Tariff and Relations | News + Updates

especially Navarro, who had probably advised Trump India would fold, are ranting like idiots.
That definitely could be a truth. The fact that Navarro has used Modi’s pic on X to launch a personal attack shows that he is desperate.
And I love the fact that India has maintained complete silence and avoided any statement whatsoever. While, India has taken many steps to show that tariff based coercion isn’t going to work.
Bully seems to be feeling itchy for being ignored.

fingers crossed on SCOTUS to pull through in the end (I expect around October or maybe sooner). I explained in more granular detail in our private group the matters at hand.

"Trump cabinet officials told a federal appeals court that ruling the president’s global tariffs illegal would seriously harm US foreign policy, with Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent warning of “dangerous diplomatic embarrassment.”

There is talk of the federal government having to repay back illegally collected tariffs.

Countries that have signed deals will have to go by them with whatever concession and tariff they have agreed to.

However, Trump seems to be a vindictive man. And he is currently not at all happy with Modi ji. So we may have to be ready for fireworks from other directions. Unless we can put some salve on his hurt ego.

Pakistanis hoping India would be sanctioned are plain stupid.

You are already sanctioned, 50% tariff is literal embargo. But thats not all, USA can go much further and start targeting services.

43% of all India $$ inflows come from USA, exports and remittances. No country depend on USA as much as India does.

For Pakistan its 15%. USA can deplete India foreign reserves in 5 years. Crash your borrowed GDP along the way. Do you think Trump doesn't know this?

@hydrabadi_arab

Indians don't know meaning of vassal state

Right as always, Hydra bro. We Indians don't know anything about being a vassal state- this is YOUR specialty.

Regards

Don't understand why Trump is so obsessed with India's dead economy. He keeps tweeting about it even though Modi refuses his phone calls. He should focus on trading with Pakistan's vibrant economy and their massive oil reserves.

@Nilgiri

Thambi,

Thanks for bringing this to my notice. Let's hope the SCOTUS puts an end to this nonsense. Personally, my fellow Bhakts and I would have hoped that our Lord would be able to secure a deal which is better than the secured by our Pakistani brethren so that we could stick it to our Pakistani brethren here; and the even larger contingent of our secular, liberal brethren and cistern from East of Wagah. Nonetheless, the well being of my fellow 1.4 billion Indians is more important than scoring cheap political points and I will take this.

Regards

You are effectively under sanctions, the additional 25% is described as a sanction, is it not?

So even if the tariffs have to be toned down, USA can still insist India are under sanctions for Russian oil purchase

What you might fail to appreciate, whatever the rights and wrongs, India is helping sustain the Russian economy and how can the USA have leverage on Russia if it allows one of its so-called allies to keep its enemy afloat

Whilst your market is attractive, you still require the rest of the world to actually develop. If you don't make concessions to the rest of the world then you're attractiveness as a market will reduce if you become poorer

@r3alist bro

USA can still insist India are under sanctions for Russian oil purchase

There are no sanctions on Russian oil purchases to begin with. As far as the 50% tariff which has been imposed, it may well be declared illegal by the SCOTUS.

You mean allies like the European Union ?

So you can continue to prattle around imagined technicalities, as if they will be enough to influence American thinking

Russia is looking like the winner as things are, as trump has the need to end this war he also needs leverage, he has also unambiguously stated he needs to destroy any challenges to the dollar

This means he has to weaken Russia and allies of Russia,

Honestly, what did you think, India can continue to support the Russian economy, which in turn is supporting the war effort, and simultaneously insist on favourable terms from America, Russia's enemy. It's a nonsense predicament really that could benefit from conclusion

Of course, India going into the Chinese embrace is a horrible optic, and china will hardly be convinced with two weeks of optics after two decades of hostility
