Well, it is mostly Indians who buy Indian products. India is not a big exporter, which is why they can absorb the US tariffs. The China outreach is not so much about finding a market , but more so about disengaging tensions on the border and opening up the flow of Chinese investments and technology again. For example, BYD had wanted to make a billon dollar investment in India, but it was rejected. That might be reconsidered.

Indians purchase most of the Indian products. India has usually run a current account deficit that has been financed by a capital account surplus. There are enough foreign investors who want exposure to India's domestic market that we can afford to run trade deficits.

The US is an even more extreme example of this dynamic. There is no fundamental reason why any country must export as much or more than it imports.
