So here is what I do know based on latest FBI releases. Take FWIW:

The FBI recovered an older imported Mauser rifle in the nearby woods. The rifle was chambered in .30-06. That alone tells me the rifle had been rebarreled at one point. All of the imports into the US were either 7.92mm, 7mm, or 6.5x55 depending on the manufacturer.

The rifle still contained the spent cartridge in the chamber along with three additional rounds in the magazine.

The FBI claims to not only have foot prints at the scene but a palm print as well. If true, then this was NOT a professional hit or it is a plant. No pro is going to leave a print.

The FBI claims to have a clear photo of the shooter's face. I am already skeptical of that statement.
