3, I can't find the other one, probably somewhere in my Class A Dress Blue or wherever I stick them in last. That one with 2 clusters

I got shot in the chest, and then caught a shrapnel from an RPG in my leg when I was in a blackhawk, and then another RPG in the arm/hand, well, it exploded in my face, but I don't know why only my hand caught it.

Wow sounds Terrible war is not kind leaves big marks, alters lives

Smart politician find ways to avoid conflict

Most people playing video game have an illusion it is video game but actual war is quite brutal

The nature of weaponry now in 2025 is more lethal as well compare to what was used in 90's and 2005's, specially how Russia is using the Mini drones in modern warfare

Video games were not a thing when I joined.

But well, if you come out of a war alive, that's pretty swell, better than someone who comes home without an arm or leg or in a box.

My first time recovering remains from a IED blast in Rawalpindi - taught me one thing - life is precious - count your blessings, hug you loved ones, be kind to people and live each day to it's fullest.

Jesus........IED is the worst, at least I know a RPG is coming my way, and I know I was being shot at, but IED, that's just random man, I think going the way of IED is like the same level of horror with artillery, it's just a random pop, and you don't even know what hit you.

But being wounded is not the worst thing that happens to you when you were wounded. Being in that hospital, we call it a Role 3 (it's like a MASH), that's the shit. I remember being in and out and watching people come in and go out with all sorts of injuries, and people crying and doing stuff that you probably would never imagine you can actually do it. And we already had that better, because of all the technology in the field and where a hospital you would imagine you would be in, I sort of understand after my time in BAS and Role 3 why my dad never talked about his time in Nam, he was a corpsman in an evac hospital in Pleiku.....

If you were ever wounded and needed to get to a hospital, never go in conscious. Ask the 68W to douse you with morphine or fen before they airlift you out..That's my advice.

Except this is Trump, and he cares more about domestic concerns. Perhaps it is for public consumption, his speech today about an enemy within, and his real focus is on China. But with Trump he seems serious on domestic matters; so a new war maybe in the planning stages. But I don’t think that war is China, but rather Venezuela.

Considering how much Biden armed Ukraine, and seeing the writing on the wall, who is to stop the Russians from shipping tons of arms to Venezuela (and probably Columbia considering Trump’s animus to the leader of that country and how it’s a major route for illegal immigration).

If the Venezuelan war turns into an insurgency, it could become another Iraq war with Columbia as safe haven for Pro-Maduro militants, and that would define the remaining years of the Trump administration, allowing China to focus on reunification.

Firstly I want to be open and honest and say, I am not an American nor have any stake in American internal matters - so I have no dog in this debate - but I just find it perplexing.

I want you all to Just picture this for one moment- the combined military experience in this room full of 800 of the top leaders of the American military would be around 28,000 years or so. All these leaders, each an authority in their respective field - had to sit through a pointless dressing down by a self-important braggart dressed up in a monkey suit who's military career ended at the grand rank of Major in the National Guard... "A MAJOR"!

"The first responsibility of a leader is to define reality. The last is to say thank you. In between, the leader is a servant."

This is not how you treat the cream of your crop!

Don't take this as a defense of the current SecDef (or SecWar) but he's not the only one to have never achieved flag rank. Others include:

- Mark Esper - Lt.Col., US Army
- Patrick Shanahan - never served
- Ash Carter - never served
- Chuck Hagel - Sergeant, US Army
- Leon Panetta - 1st. Lieutenant, US Army
- Don Rumsfeld - Captain, USN, so that would make him an O-6
- William Cohen - never served
- William J. Perry - 2nd Lieutenant, US Army
- Les Aspin - Captain, US Army
- Dick Cheney - never served. 5 draft deferrals during the Vietnam War
- Clark Clifford - Captain, US Navy
- Robert McNamara - Lt. Col., US Air Force

That is just a sampling of 12. A full 1/3 never served. None rose higher than O-6. The most recent SecDefs who were flag officers were Mattis and then Austin.

Everyone seems to like to bust on President Trump having not served so I felt obligated to bring that up.

Other notables who avoided service in Vietnam at all costs include none other than the man himself, Bill Clinton.

Notable update regarding Leon Panetta. He served from 1964-1966 in the Army Military Intelligence Corps. With US involvement in Vietnam escalating, it was certainly odd he would be discharged.
