Let me be the devil's advocate, these 'provocations' may be designed to allow Pakistan to 'retaliate' and kill 'innocent Afghans (read TTP)' without Talibs appearing to be in cahoots with Pakistan. Problem solved for both ......

If we don't intend to continue kinetic actions after expression of desire to de-escalate from Afghans -- which is very likely.

At the very least - we must take some non-military measures to create some form of detterence -- closing of all trade and borders -- cessation of any sort of assistance -- heavier hammer on repatriation of refugees and more whatever necessary.

If the Taliban and TTP decide when a conflict starts by provoking you into a conflict, and then they decide when the conflict stops and you adhere to the schedule set by the Taliban/ttp then you neither have deterrence or escalation dominance. You come off looking weak. If Pakistan stops because Afghanistan says, right, we are done now, then Pakistan looks like a bit clueless..

A buffer zone could be to make sure Pakistani territory is not bothered in the future. This will save lives in the future. I believe Turkey does the same in Syria
