I remember at the height of GWOT days we had the RPF that did route clearance and a technical report went out to equip FC and PA working in Zarb-e-Azb with basic counter IED detection tools that included:

1. Cable detector
1. Ranger Metal detector
1 set non metallic probes
1 sniffex or electronic similar trace detector
1 set of marking flags
1 ballistic blanket

This eventually got reduced down to 1x metal detector due to cost.

If we are serious about force protection we have to invest in innovative technology to protect our fighting forces.

There are so many solutions out there where E/RF wont work you have net launchers and scatter shots.

But these solutions require money, training and will to invest.
