Bangladesh plans $2.2b purchase of 20 Chinese J-10 fighter jets

So now interim government adviser is confirming bd is getting 10 eurofighter, 20 j10c and 16 jf17 along with 6 Turkish attack helicopters. All in all about 10 bil to be dropped before the end of the decade unless ofc some jackass government decides to suck upto India again

I have been seeing this news circulating and they reference this X. I hope it's true unless someone hacked his account. 😕

I was holding off on posting about this since all the content I have read so far are pointing to one single souce (Kaler Kontho).
If Asif Mahmud's verified page is posting this, it is true.
One difference is, there is no mention of JF-17's here unlike what Kaler Kontho claimed.
I don't understand the rationale behind having three different fighter jets for such a small, cash strapped air force.

Having said that, I also don't agree with EFT procurement for financial and political reasons. They will end up becoming hanger queens.

Either go all J-10CE (my preference) or mix it up with JF-17's.

Decision to pursue T129 is absolutely bonkers - have we learnt nothing from Pakistan's experience?

I won't hold my breath since he is not from the relevant department. Plus it was marked as "admin post" - he can always fall back on claiming his social media account Admin messed it up.

J 10 and JF 17 mix I get. J 10 the premier fighter supported by higher number of lightweight jf 17s.

But EFT doesn't make sense unless it is being procured to keep Europeans happy. Another possible reason could be EFT to be specialized for maritime patrol role.

Instead of EuroF, we should acquire 32 JF-17.

In the time of needs, European may not give us the " real stuff".

Bandook is useless without kartoos.

No need typhoon, waste money

rafale is better than typhoon, but is still sitting duck before j10

Save the money for whole kill chain, HQ9, kj500, even waiting for j35

The PL-16 is an improved version of the PL-15. We know little else about it except that it has folding wings. The J-20 and J-35 can carry six missiles in their bays.

The PL-17 is a completely different, ultra-long-range, large air-to-air missile. Currently, only the J-16 can carry it, and it's expected that the next-generation J-36 will be able to carry it internally in its bay.
not improved version but the next gen AAM.

I don't understand why some Pakistani members are getting insecure about potential J10CE deal with BD
no we aren't insecure , we would love for BD to be able to stand against india all on her own

Dedicated maritime strike aircraft is a luxury for Bangladesh since we are yet to sort out basics, from artillery to air superiority.

64 fighter jets are not nearly enough to counter the threats Bangladesh faces - why would you complicate things further by bringing in incompatible systems?

There is opportunity to buy less critical defence systems (e.g.- A400 transport aircraft, transport helicopters, etc.) from Europe in order to keep them happy while benefitting from quality.

yes also heavily invest in domestic missile tech like Iran , as it has shown that missiles can be used against a much bigger adversary

I think you are right. Besides, him stating publicly that Shakib Al Hasan won't be allowed to represent the national team anymore makes me question his judgement and impulse control - he is not unaware that ICC can sanction BCB for overt government interference in cricket administration.
Upon re-visiting the post, I can see it cite Kaler Kontho as source. It is possible that his admin team was allowed to post this without verifying the news with the government.

@Destranator

Who do you face a threat from?
