okay how about "they just did it for laughs" since you don't like the Chinese DeepSeek AI reasoning.
I never turst everything for AI and AI 's answer is highly dependent on how you ask the questions, their answers can be easily manipulated by the way the quesitons being asked.

So dumb, could we invade US and burn down the White House to ensure" financial investments didn't get taken away from us".
In a way, the Eight-Nation Alliance Invasion can be viewed as the modern day "Crusade" by Western Powers in China.

The US will most likely retain it's position of having the largest Nominal GDP for the foreseeable future.

China's GDP growth rate is just no longer high enough to surpass the US.
It's not about GDP figure, Qing dynasty still had the biggest GDP in the world, but it lacked industrial power and modern tech to defend itself. Now China boasts the industrial capability bigger than all the western countries combined.

US is not going to let China or any other country to take its top spot on GDP, just see what US did to Japan and what it is doing to China now. US can always print greenbacks and raise the products prices, expenses and wages to inflate its GDP as they are doing now.

GDP means nothing if a country doesn't have industrial and tech to defend itself.
In 1900 China's GDP was comparatively higher than what China is now.

"In 1900, China was estimated to have the second-largest economy in the world, trailing only the United States. At the dawn of the 20th century, the U.S. had recently overtaken China as the global economic leader.
In 1900, China’s GDP is estimated to have been roughly $23 billion to $25 billion in historical international dollars, accounting for approximately 11% of the global economy."

And China had the largest GDP in the world in 1840, but it was basically an agricultural society and it was defeated by the industrialized and technologically advanced Britain in the opium war. Beside sound defense industry and tech, the country also needs strong armed forces and martial populace to defeat any invading country.
