He won the Philippines and Japan surrendered to him as the Pacific theatre of war ended. He was a brilliant yet arrogant general who l might add didn't think much of President Trueman.
Before he won the Philippines against a collapsing Japanese empire with depleted resources he also lost Philippines to the Japanese. He also fought the primitive Chinese military to a stalemate in Korea.
 
MacArthur was a hollywood general more concerned about photoOps than actual fighting, was handed his ass by Japanese in Manilla and then by Chinese in Korea.
At the time, US forces in the Philippines were more of an occupation army than a combat army.

Bit harsh. The British retreated from Dunkirk before eventually returning across the Channel when stronger.

MacArthur vowed personally to liberate Philippines and he came good on that. And it was the Americans who collapsed Imperial Japan.
