A new round of fighting that began after noon on Tuesday August 25, 2026, between Afghanistan Freedom Front commandos and Taliban reinforcement units deployed to the front lines in Zibak District of Badakhshan Province continued until 10:00 pm.
The Taliban launched artillery attacks from several directions in an unsuccessful attempt to break through the defensive lines and positions of the AFF commandos. The fighters’ fierce resistance, followed by a counterattack, inflicted heavy casualties on the attacking Taliban militias and forced them to retreat.
In today’s fighting, at least 10 members of the attacking Taliban militia were killed and six others were wounded. Foreign terrorists were reportedly among the casualties. Fearing that the identities of the foreign militants fighting alongside them in Zibak could be exposed, the Taliban have transferred the bodies of those killed, and even those wounded, to undisclosed locations.
