No, air launched SM-6 dates back to 2015. It’s just been a special access program for the last decade

Fair enough but this was not really a custom designed missile but an ad-hoc job.

The launch platform would light up like a massive lighthouse on radar most probably, as it is so huge and not designed to fit underneath the plane with minimal RCS in mind.

The J-20 has been able to carry the 300km range PL-15 internally for years.

Congrats on eventually catching up when the AIM-260 is fielded on the aging F-22.

AIM-260s are longer ranged, with more advanced propulsion and seeker technology than PL-15s.

An they are in production now:

You simply don't understand how BVR missiles works. PL-15 does not have 300km effective range.

Plus, US and Cninese doctrine is different.

So USA has now caught up with the Chinese PL-21 that can be fired by J-16 and J-20(even more lethal).

There is no official info on whether PL-21 in service or not. You are talking from yourself.

Dude, you need to cool it a bit.

That is the claimed maximum range of the missile and of course highly unlikely it will hit anything at that extreme range.

Now please think a little before replying to my posts as you seem not to think and blurt something out by making incorrect assumptions of what I am saying.

You have no idea on whether the PL-15 or AIM-120D has a better seeker.

In fact no one on planet Earth most likely knows.
Lol. I just love how you like to say "you have no idea" but yet post claims yourself where "you have no idea."

Your Wumao is showing.

Launch platform is not really a concern given its range and ability to strike targets in the NIFC-CA battle network. An SM-6 are extremely capable missiles. From air-air, to antiship, to anti cruise and ballistic missile. An the Navy is on record saying it’s capable of intercepting maneuvering hypersonic warheads.

I think PAC-2 GEM-T should be replaced with SM-6 with booster or half of SM-6 in launcher should have the booster for extra long range shots.

There is indeed an air-to-air missile with a range of 500km that has been put into service by the Chinese Air Force. What we don’t know is the number of this air-to-air missile.
Some people say the number is PL-17.
