Air India to cut international flights till July amid fuel surge, airspace curbs

Here you go again. Bringing Pakistan into everything and when you get infractions - you say i dont like you. You are correct - im not your biggest fan but do try for once to stick to the topic without veering off on one.
Air India suffers from its legacy as a Govt Run company. It's reputation among the users is extremely bad. In my life I have never ever used Air india flight ! It's that bad.
Now current Owner TATA is doing a lot but it will need a massive investment and complete overhaul of service and products.
As per the latest info Singapore Airlines ( A minor share holder) is taking over the day to day operation.

Air India is a private Company. The loss or profit is headache of Tata Group. Also Air India has market share of only 25% in indian Aviation industry.

Explains why it sucks. Tata is also polluting and spreading toxic chemicals in The Netherlands. They received massive fines and penalties. Wherever Tata is involved there is bound to be problems.

If you remember few years back PIA wasn't even allowed to fly over European countries due to their safety standards.... today you're trying to sell it and you compare PIA with Air India?
Dude, the point is, we can fix safety standards.

Can India fix geography?

I don't understand why Indians are so annoyed by this whole episode frankly. What on earth did Modi think would happen when 10 years ago he said "we will isolate Pakijjtan saar!"?

Wow! Is this what you search in your free time ?

Some of the guys are pretending like a $3 billion loss is a killer for Air India.

Pakistan denial of airspace is only applicable to Indian entities. If you are Indian and flying to/from western countries, would you not taken other airlines, offering direct flight via Pakistani airspace, in quicker time and perhaps cheaper as well? or deshbhakti will kick in?

Air India will cut international flights from June to July as rising ATF prices, airspace restrictions, and longer routes make several operations unprofitable, CEO Campbell Wilson said.

Air India will reduce its international flight operations through June and July as a sharp rise in aviation turbine fuel (ATF) prices and ongoing airspace restrictions have made several routes unprofitable, according to an internal communication accessed by India Today.

Air India CEO and Managing Director Campbell Wilson told staff that the airline has “no choice but to trim schedules in June and July” amid mounting operational challenges. The airline has already reduced some flying in April and May due to the “massive rise in jet fuel prices,” combined with airspace closures and longer flying routes.

The move comes days after India’s airline industry has sought urgent government intervention as a sharp rise in jet fuel prices begins to strain operations and push up costs. In a letter to the Civil Aviation Ministry, the Federation of Indian Airlines (FIA), which represents carriers such as Air India, IndiGo and SpiceJet, warned that the sector is facing “extreme stress” due to soaring aviation turbine fuel (ATF) prices.

The surge in ATF prices, driven by the broader impact of the Middle East war, along with adverse currency exchange rates and restricted airspace, has significantly affected Air India’s international operations. Many international routes have become unviable, forcing the airline to scale back services.

Aviation fuel, which typically accounts for around 30–40% of airline costs, has now risen to as much as 55–60% of operating expenses, according to the industry.

Airspace restrictions following the West Asia conflict have compelled Air India to take longer routes for several international destinations, leading to higher fuel burn and increased costs. Wilson described the situation as “extremely challenging” and said it has left the airline with limited options.

While domestic flight profitability has also taken a hit, government intervention has helped reduce the degree of impact on those operations.

In his message to employees, Wilson sought “continued solidarity” from staff as the airline navigates the crisis. He acknowledged the disruption caused to passengers and crew schedules, expressing hope that the situation in the Middle East stabilises soon and that key routes, including the Strait of Hormuz, reopen.

Air India Group is estimated to have incurred losses of over Rs 22,000 crore in the financial year ending March 31, 2026. Wilson, who has announced plans to step down later this year, said the airline will aim to return to normal operations once fuel prices ease and airspace constraints are lifted.

Happening world over to be honest. Cousin booked holiday to Turkey - flight was in July, now being advised flight may be cancelled.

I don't have access to Daily Mail at the moment due to the connection I have. Article this morning suggesting global recession just around the corner due to the events in the Persian Gulf and the cost of jet and other fuels.

Air India is the cheapest game in town. The long term competitive threat from Air India is huge

Disagree. Air travel is not like software programming. The world and his uncle won't tolerate cheap and cheerful alternatives to genuine quality (particularly in terms of safety record, never mind the frills and garnish). The only market for Air India gamble-with-your-life tat will be Indians themselves, who will tolerate such low standards.

Now in one sense, that does remain a considerably large market, because of your population, but that is a specific context that India applies here and it doesn't mean "cheapness" equates to "competitiveness" per se.

Beyond that, how cheap Air India can remain is questionable. One would speculate that trying to remain budget friendly in the context of jet fuel cost rises and airspace bans is precisely the reason why Air India is struggling.

All airlines are struggling this Mideast war has effected all industries and all countries

You Pakistanis have all sorts of domestic issues with everyday living thanks to Trumps war with Iran

It's not unique to India
My colleagues have lost 15% of their investments portfolio value
Petrol and other foods rising

Big deal

India doesn't need to fix geography.... its just a small sized Pakistan who can be happy by thinking that he can block few planes going to Europe from only Delhi and surroundings....

India is too large my friend.... south India doesn't at all need you and from north India only from Delhi and surroundings has just to fly 1 hr journey till Gujarat and continue.... you don't have that big landmass to block entire western Indian air traffic.... after all it's just a little Pakistan landmass we have to deal with...

For east asia, America, Australia we don't even need you from Delhi as well... so enjoy Karo aur khwab dekhte raho....
